Job Description
Job Function:
Responsible for performing the job duties at the Hotpress, Floatline, Printer, and Wrapper to produce molded fiber egg cartons to customer specifications. Maintains excellent safety and housekeeping standards, and verifies quality at each assigned workstation.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Hot Press Operator
- Follows all documented safety, quality, and production procedures.
- Ensures the continuous operation of the mechanical hot press to achieve production goals.
- Restores flow if the hot press stops or encounters issues.
- Troubleshoots and communicates mechanical issues to the Hot Press Mechanic and management.
- Identifies and removes defective cartons by observing the decline conveyor leading to the Hot Press and the outfeed.
- Responds immediately to alarms concerning carton jams.
- Assists in feeding cartons into the line to increase productivity and decrease scrap, as needed.
- Demonstrates proper use of tools (e.g., dowel rods, picks).
- Maintains excellent housekeeping standards to ensure a safe work area.
- If a printer stops, assists in carton pickup at the outfeed.
- Maintains the workstation until relieved.
- Assists in cleaning the oven area during line start-up and downtime.
- Addresses and reports safety issues or hazards immediately.
- Maintains an excellent safety and attendance record.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Printer Operator
- Follows all documented safety, quality, and production procedures.
- Verifies against a visual representation of the final product to ensure all cartons are made to order.
- Ensures accuracy of bundle tags, including stamps, and proper placement of tags.
- Communicates quality defects to the Printer Mechanic and management.
- Assists in wiping down plates as necessary.
- Helps pick up cartons on the line during downtimes.
- Maintains excellent housekeeping standards.
- Wraps completed bundles.
- Verifies order paperwork and signs plate change forms.
- Maintains the workstation until relieved.
- Assists in cleaning the oven area during line start-up and downtime.
- Addresses and reports safety issues or hazards immediately.
- Maintains an excellent safety and attendance record.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Oven Attendant
- Follows all documented procedures for the position.
- Empties oven run-out stackers.
- Collects scrap and places it in appropriate bins.
- Responds immediately to oven jams.
- Checks product alignment out of the oven and resolves issues.
- Helps reduce production scrap levels.
- Assists with emptying scrap bins from the Hot Press.
- Maintains effective communication with the Hot Press Mechanic.
- Informs the Natural Team Leader and/or Production Supervisor of problems.
- Maintains excellent housekeeping standards.
- Addresses and reports safety issues or hazards immediately.
- Maintains an excellent safety and attendance record.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Experience
- At least one year of experience in a manufacturing environment, including control of mechanical processes and product inspection.
- Demonstrated self-compliance with company policies and procedures.
Skills
- Ability to work safely and communicate professionally.
- Ability to determine product quality, including carton malformations and structural integrity.
- Manual dexterity and hand/eye coordination.
- Ability to work well on a team.
Physical requirements
- Standing and sitting for extended periods.
- Occasional climbing of stairs, ladders, or platforms.
- Working in hot, cold, dusty, noisy environments with moving equipment.
Working conditions
- Must perform essential job duties physically.
- Ability to work rotating 12-hour schedules and overtime.
Education
High School Diploma or GED
