Position Overview

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the ideal candidate should be able to troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic problems. Knowledge of electrical/electronic maintenance, PLC programming, and process automation is a plus. The position will maintain and upgrade equipment in an industrial production environment. Flexibility is necessary to manage multiple projects as well as re-evaluate and change priorities quickly and efficiently.
Essential Duties
- Review maintenance work orders as assigned; identify, recommend, implement, and document optimal solutions.
- Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain production or processing equipment; specific skills include mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, and welding; may repair/replace motors, rebuild/replace pumps, repair electro-mechanical equipment, lubricate equipment; document equipment problems and solutions.
- Perform general and preventive maintenance on plant buildings, including pipe fitting and plumbing tasks, general electrical and lighting tasks, and work to comply with regulatory codes.
- Repair gasoline or propane-powered forklifts as needed; replace worn or broken parts, adjust brakes, lubricate, and overhaul when required.
- Perform welding tasks as needed to maintain equipment and the facility properly. Materials welded may include steel, stainless steel, and other alloys, and different welding equipment and techniques may be used. All-position welding may be required.
- Assist in making electrical installations/repairs as required (i.e., wiring).
- Perform data entry into our computerized Maintenance Management System (Limble) and use Microsoft Office software.
- Must be able to work daily overtime, after-hours call-in, and weekend work as required to minimize operational downtime, particularly during adverse conditions and other production emergencies.
- Always exercise exceptional manufacturing, housekeeping, and safety practices, setting high standards and providing a standard for others to achieve.
- Observe and comply with all company and/or regulatory agency safety and environmental rules at all times, including wearing all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required by Company policy or Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
- Follow proper safety procedures, including forklift Safety, loading dock safety, and Western’s Hazardous Material Receiving procedures.
- Perform preventive maintenance-related inspections and work as required, and provide leadership in upgrading the preventive maintenance program.
- Required to maintain timely communication, including after hours and weekends, with production personnel, including but not limited to shift leads, supervisors, and managers, to minimize manufacturing downtime and ensure the safe operation of equipment.
- Always use proper ergonomic and safe practices.
Other Duties
- Accurately and timely perform all scheduled PMs.
- Report all safety near-miss, incident, and accident occurrences, as well as observed unsafe acts, to your supervisor, including any damage to equipment or facilities.
- Cross-train in other functions or tasks as requested or required.
- Perform end-of-day and end-of-week facility lockdown procedures as needed.
- Safely perform lockout-tagout of equipment.
- Ensure all safety training is completed on time and maintained current, including first aid and CPR training.
- Other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands
- Body Agility: required to see, hear, use hands, carry, stretch, reach, push, pull, balance, kneel, climb, crouch, crawl, sit, stand, and walk. A high degree of manual dexterity is essential.
- Ability to work in crowded, tight spaces.
- Required to walk and/or stand continuously for extended periods.
- Required to be waiting to be engaged or work all hours the manufacturing facility is operating, including weekends.
- Required to work in a hot and cramped environment (work environment temperature may exceed 100 °F).
- Ability to move objects up to 70 pounds.
- Manual dexterity to manipulate small objects.
- Ability to distinguish color-coded wire and objects.
Requirements
- A minimum of five (5) years of Industrial Manufacturing maintenance experience.
- Strong analytical, technical, and mechanical skills.
- Knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, and arc welding is preferred.
- Knowledge of electrical/electronic and PLC programming. Electrical license of LME, MPJ, MPE, Journeyman preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics, blueprints, maintenance manuals, operating instructions, and safety regulations.
- Ability to understand verbal and written instructions or manuals in English.
- Basic computer knowledge and skills. CMMS experience is a plus.
- Must have excellent attendance, dependability, and maturity, and the ability to work independently.
- Must be safety conscious and able to work safely either alone or in a team environment.
- Ability to work overtime and flexible hours, occasional weekends to support manufacturing as needed.
- A high school diploma or GED as a bare minimum; Prefer a trade school or apprenticeship graduate; an Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree is a plus.
- Possess a sense of urgency directed toward quickly learning all necessary skills.
- U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residence (Green Card) required.
- If a new hire, successful completion of a pre-employment drug test.
