Job summary

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory seeks a Health and Safety Specialist to lead industrial hygiene and safety programs within the ES&H Division. The role covers asbestos, lead, chemical hazards, and safety training to support research operations and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities include hazard assessment, incident investigations, and collaboration with technicians, principal investigators, and support teams to implement controls and maintain documentation in SLAC’s safety program.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 3 years progressively responsible experience in industrial hygiene, occupational safety and health, or related field.
• Practical knowledge of Cal/OSHA laws, regulations, and policies.
• Capable of identifying known potential exposures and recommending corrective action.
• Ability to conduct health and safety surveys, exposure/risk assessments, and data analyses.
• Ability to communicate clearly with diverse audiences and author professional reports.
• Familiarity with government regulations and university policies.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain programs, systems, and procedures to ensure safety and health of employees and the community.
• Develop and deliver employee and student training on EHS topics.
• Identify, assess, and monitor workplace hazards and remediate as needed.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and complaints concerning potential hazards.
• Recommend improvements in processes and equipment to minimize hazards.
• Provide technical advice and interpretation of regulations and policies.
