Tetra Tech, Inc. is seeking a hands‑on Industrial Hygiene / Environmental Scientist to support a multidisciplinary team across the Ann Arbor and greater Detroit region.

The role emphasizes field and office work, including asbestos/lead inspections, IAQ assessments, and environmental projects with heavy travel within the Great Lakes area. The ideal candidate has 2–5 years of relevant experience, current asbestos/lead certifications, NIOSH 582 or equivalent, and HAZWOPER is a plus.

Qualifications

Tetra Tech, Inc. is seeking a hands‑on Industrial Hygiene / Environmental Scientist within the Ann Arbor and greater Detroit area. As an IH Scientist, you will assist a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers to collect real time field data at sites throughout the region. 2-5 years of experience preferred in asbestos, lead, indoor air quality (IAQ), and environmental related projects, and current certifications as an asbestos inspector, asbestos contractor/supervisor, lead inspector or lead risk assessor, NIOSH 582 or equivalent certification, and HAZWOPER are desired but not required. Construction/building systems background experience preferred. A current driver’s license with clear driving record within company standards is required. This position may have hybrid working opportunities, but the candidate must reside within 100 miles of the Ann Arbor, MI office.

Essential Job Functions:

This position requires field and office activities for asbestos inspections, lead-based paint inspections, IAQ assessments, abatement oversight, monitoring, and environmental projects primarily at project sites throughout the Great Lakes region.

This position may require occasional night and weekend travel/work.

Work activities will include conducting asbestos and lead-based paint inspections, overseeing asbestos abatement projects, collecting air samples, and preparing technical reports.

The ideal candidate will also be trained in environmental compliance activities.

Office duties will include proposals, creating and reviewing technical documents for accuracy and grammar written by field technicians, job safety analysis, work plan development, remediation design, data evaluation, and reporting.

Tasks associated with reporting may include the preparation of text, tables, charts, and figures.

Required Qualifications:

BS degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or related field is required.

2-5 years' experience working on environmental related projects.

Applicant must have excellent technical abilities, communication and organization skills, and technical writing skills.

Familiarity with the MS Office Suite.

The field requirements will include approximately 75% or more of travel/fieldwork. This position may require occasional night and weekend travel.

A pre-employment drug screening in compliance with state regulationsis required.

• Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.

Preferred Qualifications:

2-5 years experience in asbestos, lead, indoor air quality (IAQ) related project work.

NIOSH 582 or equivalent certification.

OSHA Certification.

HAZWOPER Certification.

State of Michigan Asbestos Inspector License.

Construction/building systems background experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to work at heights over 20-feet above the ground and be capable of entering confined spaces.

Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 30lbs over rugged surfaces, including uneven ground.

Ability to be on your feet for extended periods of time, moving through facilities primarily outdoors, in all weather conditions (hot/cold temperatures, loud noises, heavy equipment).

This position may have hybrid working opportunities, but the candidate must reside within 100 miles of the Ann Arbor, MI office. This arrangement is subject to review and may change at the company's discretion.

Additional Information:

Full-time, Monday through Friday work schedule (40 hours). Occasionally, extended hours may be required based on project and/or client needs (including working overtime and weekends).
