Job summary

Tetra Tech, Inc. is seeking an environmental field technician in Cincinnati, Ohio to support brownfield redevelopment and environmental investigations across the Midwest.

The role requires strong communication, independent work ethic, and the ability to manage field activities on diverse contracts with federal, state, and commercial clients. Responsibilities include field sampling, overseeing subcontractors, and supporting emergency response.

Qualifications

• 3 to 8+ years of environmental consulting or related experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform field data collection: soil, groundwater, sediment, drinking water, soil gas, and indoor air sampling.
• Conduct Phase I and Phase II environmental assessments; UST closure and corrective actions.
• Oversee field subcontractors during geophysical surveys, drilling, boreholes, wells, and abatement activities.
• Assist with asbestos/lead surveys and emergency response support; maintain on-call readiness.

The Opportunity

Tetra Tech is looking for a full-time environmental field technician to join our team in Cincinnati, Ohio to support various environmental projects throughout the mid-west, predominantly within Ohio.

Position Summary

This position will support a variety of contracts with federal, state, and commercial clients, with a focus on brownfield redevelopment programs. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, with the ability to work successfully both independently and in team settings.

Essential Job Functions

The following duties are considered essential to the role. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions:

• This position will support environmental investigations predominantly in a field setting, with the following general responsibilities:
  • Completing field data collection activities, including soil, groundwater, sediment, drinking water, soil gas, and indoor air sampling.
  • Conducting Phase I and Phase II environmental assessments, as well as UST closure and corrective action investigations.
  • Logging and USCS classification of collected soil cores.
  • Field oversight and management of subcontractors during completion of geophysical surveys and private utility clearances; drilling and installation of soil borings, monitoring wells, and soil gas probes; and excavation and other remedial activities.
  • Conducting asbestos and lead-based paint surveys as well as oversight during abatement.
  • Providing technical support in the areas of emergency response, removal assessment, and removal action.
  • Maintaining a rotating on-call readiness to handle emergency responses and provide remedial and restoration guidance/solutions to clients.
  • Communication and interaction with vendors, clients, and subcontractors.

Required Qualifications

• 3 to 8+ years of environmental consulting or related experience.
• Must possess strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills (both written and verbal).
• Must be highly motivated, customer focused, and work well in a team environment.
• This position requires driving on a regular basis. Passing a motor vehicle record background check and maintaining a valid driver's license and good standing is required.

Preferred Qualifications

• B.S./B.A. in Geology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• Previous experience with site investigations, remediation, or field sampling (including Ohio EPA VAP and/or Ohio BUSTR) preferred, but not required.
• Previous experience supporting US EPA contracts and/or emergency response programs.
• OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER with 8-Hour Refresher.
• Asbestos and/or lead certification.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to walk around project sites in all types of terrain and be physically able to carry up to 50 pounds of equipment.
• Must be able to complete annual medical monitoring program.

Work Environment / Environmental Factors

• This position will require outdoor work within the U.S. during all seasons, including peak summer and winter conditions.
• Overnight travel may also be required, could be in excess of 40%.

Additional Information

Work schedule is typically Monday - Friday. Overtime requirements will be as needed based on project and field events. Field work and travel encompasses up to 80% of this role.
