Job summary

AngloGold Ashanti North America Inc. seeks an Industrial Hygiene & Safety Intern to own a dedicated 12-week project, delivering a final technical report and presentation.

You will design IH sampling plans, evaluate hazards, manage exposure data, and support EH&S software across sites, while training HSS staff in IH principles.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of a dedicated 12-week IH project, manage timelines, deliver a final technical report and presentation.
• Anticipate, recognize, and evaluate physical, chemical, and biological hazards across all operational locations.
• Design and execute IH sampling plans.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and company policies.
• Document and maintain exposure monitoring data and risk profiles in a centralized registry.
• Lead the setup and administration of EH&S software (ideally Cority) to track IH data.
• Develop and deliver training to HSS staff on IH principles and sampling methodologies.
• Manage chemical inventory and ensure SDS are updated and accessible.
• Oversee gas detection programs, calibration, maintenance, and training for gas monitors.
• Conduct a comprehensive confined space inventory with hazard assessment and labeling across sites.
• Provide support to Mine Rescue team, coordinating training and emergency protocols.
• Perform safety inspections and risk assessments to mitigate hazards.
• Review and update SOPs for North Bullfrog site to align with regulatory changes.

The Industrial Hygiene & Safety Intern will help anticipate, evaluate and control health hazards, train the department on industrial hygiene equipment, and work on other aspects of sampling.

This is a project-based internship. Rather than generalized administrative tasks, you will be assigned a core technical project to own from start to finish. This role offers hands‑on experience, culminating in an end‑of‑program presentation to technical leadership.

Key Responsibilities

• Take ownership of a dedicated 12-week project, managing timelines, and delivering a final technical report and presentation.
• Anticipate, recognize, and evaluate physical, chemical, and biological hazards across all operational locations.
• Design and execute IH sampling plans
• to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and company policies.
• Document and maintain all exposure monitoring data and risk profiles in a centralized risk registry.
• Lead the system set-up and administration of environmental health and safety software (ideally Cority) to track IH data.
• Develop and deliver training to the Health, Safety, and Security (HSS) staff on basic IH principles and sampling methodologies.
• Chemical & Equipment Compliance
• Manage the chemical inventory system, ensuring all Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are updated and accessible.
• Oversee gas detection programs, including the selection, calibration, maintenance, and user training for fixed and portable gas monitors.
• Conduct a comprehensive confined space inventory, ensuring accurate classification, hazard assessment, and compliant labeling across all sites.
• Emergency Response & Operations
• Provide dedicated support to the Mine Rescue team, assisting with training coordination, equipment readiness, and emergency protocols.
• Perform regular safety inspections and comprehensive risk assessments to proactively mitigate workplace hazards.
• Review and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the North Bullfrog site, making necessary adjustments to align with evolving regulatory and operational needs.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Currently enrolled as a rising senior in an Undergraduate program or final‑year Master's student pursuing a degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health and Safety, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a closely related field.
• Foundational understanding of industrial hygiene, occupational health and safety.
• Strong technical writing, reporting, and presentation skills.
• Ability to analyze datasets, draw logical conclusions, and present findings clearly.
• A collaborative mindset with an eagerness to learn and proactively ask questions.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
• Valid driver’s license required; willingness to travel to project sites if necessary.
