Job summary

ECS Mid-Atlantic, LLC is seeking an Environmental Project Manager to join our Industrial Hygiene team. The role combines field and office work, requiring a positive customer service attitude aligned with ECS Core Values.

The candidate will manage multiple environmental projects, coordinate with clients, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Excellent communication and budgeting skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor or Master in Industrial Hygiene or related environmental degree.
  • Minimum 2 years of related experience.
  • Asbestos or lead inspector certifications required.
  • CIH certification desired but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Manage asbestos, lead-based paint, mold, and indoor air quality assessments and remediation.
  • Attend project meetings and provide solutions to issues.
  • Interface with clients daily and maintain a client database.
  • Prepare proposals, change orders, invoices, and assist with collections.
  • Prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and coordinate with supervisor.
  • Manage multiple environmental projects concurrently and apply technical support.
  • Prepare environmental reports and provide recommendations for senior review.
  • Review deliverables before submission to seniors/principals.
  • Host or attend project discussions with clients and follow up on reports.
  • Direct field work of subcontractors and ECS staff and monitor progress.
  • Review daily field reports and visit active sites to ensure quality.
  • Mentor junior staff and communicate milestones to clients.
  • Know federal, state, and local environmental regulations and their implications.

Job description

Responsibilities

Engineering Consulting Services (ECS) is seeking an Environmental Project Manager to join our Industrial Hygiene team. This role performs multiple tasks on a project assigned by their supervisor. Depending on the project and abilities, they will take an increasing role and responsibility for the project. Work will be a mix of field and office. The ideal candidate presents a positive customer service attitude and understanding of ECS Core Values.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and perform asbestos, lead‑based paint, mold and indoor air quality assessments, remediation, and/or abatement. Relevant certifications/licensure required
  • Attend project meetings and provide solutions to technical and administrative issues as necessary
  • Interface with clients on a daily regular basis. Maintain and develop a client database.
  • Basic ability to manage project budgets. Prepare proposals, change orders, invoices, and assist with collection efforts
  • Good ability to prioritize tasks to meet project deadlines. Consult with your supervisor to help prioritize tasks on a weekly basis.
  • Management of environmental projects including the application of technical support. Responsible for several projects being performed simultaneously.
  • Prepare environmental reports, perform analysis and provide recommendations for review by senior staff
  • Perform review of deliverables prepared by subordinate staff prior to submission for senior and principal review
  • Host or attend project discussions with clients, follow up on reports to determine if there are questions
  • Communicate with junior staff to direct field work performed by subcontractors and other ECS technicians and other field staff.
  • Review daily reports produced by field staff. Perform routine visits to active project sites to ensure appropriate quality and progress. Mentor junior staff as needed. Communicate project completion milestones with client and advise on any significant directional changes.
  • Good knowledge of federal, state and local environmental regulations and guidelines and their implications on findings and conclusions in studies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor and/or Master of Science in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, Environmental Health, Environmental Engineering, or other related environmental degree applicable to Environmental Consulting, such as Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Geology, or a related Engineering field.
  • Minimum 2 years of related experience
  • Asbestos or lead inspector certifications required
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification is desired, but not required
Skills and Abilities
  • General experience with asbestos, mold, lead‑based paint, legionella, dust, radon, and indoor air quality, industrial health and safety, and OSHA compliance
  • Experience in the greater Washington, DC metro region (DC, Virginia, Maryland, and West Virginia)
  • Good knowledge of environmental principles and applications.
  • Good knowledge of permitting processes, environmental regulations, and environmental test methods
  • Good ability to manage and develop new clients. Seek out opportunities to develop relationships with clients.
  • Experience independently managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds on occasion and walk on uneven ground through various terrains

  • The following US Military ranks will qualify for this position IF they also meet the education and licenses requirements from the above section titled "Required Qualifications":
    • E-6

The expected pay range for this role and location is $60k - $90k/year. The final agreed‑upon compensation will be determined based on specific location and other individual qualifications.
