Job summary

Harsco Environmental is seeking an experienced Engineer to lead complex planning, development, and analytical activities for process equipment layouts across plant, office, and production facilities. You will plan facility utilization, equipment, materials and personnel to boost operational efficiency and drive safety and continuous improvement initiatives.

The role requires strong analytical skills, Lean/Six Sigma experience, and the ability to travel up to 40% across North America.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years progressive experience in engineering within manufacturing or production services, responsible for design, safety, performance, and economics of fixed facilities planning and development.
  • Experience in steel mill and/or aggregate products setting.
  • Strong knowledge of product lines, engineering theory and design criteria.
  • Strong analytical and technical skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated project management and interpersonal abilities.
  • Previous Lean or Six Sigma experience.
  • Ability to travel up to 40% to sites across North America; passport required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a safe working environment and culture; improve safety indicators and promote good systems and housekeeping.
  • Foster continuous improvement using Lean Sigma methodologies and support Harsco Metals initiatives.
  • Provide knowledge-based solutions to improve customer performance; collaborate with Business Development and Engineering teams.
  • Design process equipment, facilities, components, and systems for metal recovery, upgrading, and aggregate production.
  • Coordinate and provide operations, maintenance guidance to site personnel for field installations.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance strategies and evaluate effectiveness at site level.
  • Prepare detailed reporting on in-process projects and planning phases; maintain project records.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction and engage in additional technical support as needed.
  • Apply analytical approaches to study data and justify engineering solutions.
  • Use computer-aided engineering and design software for engineering tasks.
  • Prepare economic justifications and CAPEX summaries for projects.
  • Provide project management and field engineering services on site.
  • Supervise trades during erection and modification of equipment; supervise installation of plant components and ancillaries.
  • Develop initial plans based on engineering standards and building codes; consider safety standards.
  • Evaluate processing equipment performance against application and maintenance costs.
  • Prepare component specifications for purchasing; approve bids for plant components and erection contracts.
  • Estimate and summarize project, plant, equipment, and erection costs; approve variances from specs and drawings.
  • Prepare layouts for material flow and assess environmental impact.
  • Calculate utility requirements for processing steel mill by-product materials; familiarize with PLC controllers and software.

SUMMARY

Responsible for complex planning activities, maintenance principal development and analytical analysis for process equipment layouts in plant, office, and production facilities. Plans utilization of facilities, equipment, materials, and personnel to improve efficiency of operations by performing the following duties.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead a safe working environment and culture with improvement in key safety indicators. This includes focus on good systems, housekeeping, and behaviors.
  • Creating a culture of continuous improvement and Lean Sigma methodology and supporting Harsco Metals initiatives.
  • Provide knowledge-based solutions and services to improve our customers performance. Participating in value creation with our Business Development and Engineering staff.
  • Designs process equipment, facilities, components, and systems for metal recovery, upgrading, and aggregate production.
  • Coordinates and provides operation & maintenance, assistance and guidance to site personnel of systems in field installations.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of, where and as required, preventative maintenance strategies at the site level and evaluate their effectiveness
  • Detailed reporting and updating on "in-process" projects and planning phases of projects assigned
  • Customer (internal&external) satisfaction mindset a must
  • Flexibility to engage into additional areas of technical support for the business
  • Brings an analytical approach to the field by studying the data and providing analytically based/justified solutions
  • Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks.
  • Prepares economic justification and capital expenditure summary reports for all projects.
  • Provides project management and field engineering services on site.
  • Supervises building trade craft persons during erection and modification of stationary equipment.
  • Supervises plant, equipment, and ancillaries’ installation.
  • Conceives initial plans based on acceptable engineering standards, applicable building codes relative to the location and national safety standards.
  • Evaluates processing equipment performance to acceptable application and R&M costs.
  • Prepares component specifications for purchasing.
  • Evaluates and approves all bids for plant components and erection contracts.
  • Estimates and summarizes project, plant, equipment, and plant erection costs.
  • Approves variances from specifications and drawings.
  • Prepares overall layouts for material flow and environmental impact.
  • Calculates all usable utility requirements necessary to process steel mill by-product material risings.
  • Familiarizes with PLC controllers and software
QUALIFICATIONS

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years progressive experience in engineering department of manufacturing or production services company, including responsibility for design, safety, performance, and economics of fixed facilities planning and development.
  • Experience in steel mill and/or aggregate products setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of product line and its use. Sound knowledge of engineering theory and design criteria.
  • Strong analytical and technical skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills, including demonstrated project management abilities and interpersonal skills.
  • Previous LEAN or Six Sigma experience.
  • Ability to travel up to 40% to sites across North America
  • Valid passport and ability to travel outside of the USA
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Associate degree in Engineering or similar field.
  • Working knowledge of Auto-CAD software.
