Job summary

Job Description

The Industrial Engineer (IE) will be part of the Advanced Manufacturing group within the Amcor Flexibles North America (AFNA) division and will report to the Director of Flexibles Advanced Manufacturing. The IE will be responsible for designing and implementing Discrete Event Simulations (DES) to support strategic decision‑making for manufacturing technology investments and operational transformation initiatives. This role will focus on developing multi‑year manufacturing transformation roadmaps through facility layout optimization, operational process analysis, and project planning and execution across multi‑functional manufacturing sites. The candidate will combine creative problem‑solving with strong analytical capabilities to apply IE principles in manufacturing environments. The scope of responsibility will encompass the entire manufacturing ecosystem, including shop floor operations, material flow and logistics, supply chain processes, and production‑enabling systems such as ERP, data management, and performance reporting. The IE will leverage data‑driven analysis and simulation modeling to identify optimization opportunities, validate investment decisions, and improve overall manufacturing performance.

  • Leads and cultivates strategic internal and external partnerships to develop, implement, and sustain manufacturing transformation initiatives that support each manufacturing site's long‑term vision and accelerate its evolution into a smart manufacturing facility.
  • Designs and implements data collection strategies while collaborating with cross‑functional project teams to validate current‑state processes and material flows, ensuring the development of accurate DES models of manufacturing systems. Establishes baseline simulation models and partners with project teams to evaluate, optimize, and validate future‑state automation solutions that improve cycle time, work‑in‑process (WIP), throughput, capacity, bottleneck reduction, resource utilization, and overall production performance across complex manufacturing operations.
  • Identifies and evaluates high‑value technical use cases where process optimization, DES, automation, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), and Automated Vision Inspection Systems (AVIS) can provide measurable business value and competitive advantage. Develops scalable solutions that support projects ranging from individual manufacturing processes to enterprise‑wide transformation initiatives.
  • Translate real‑world processes into validated simulation logic while ensuring data integrity and consistency to support credible simulation outputs with digital manufacturing tools (IIoT, MES, ERP, PowerBI).
  • Validates IE requirements with multiple automation integrators and evaluates proposed automation solutions to ensure alignment with business objectives, operational requirements, and manufacturing strategies. Applies Lean Manufacturing and Just‑in‑Time (JIT) principles to assess solution effectiveness, optimize process flow, eliminate waste, and maximize operational performance and return on investment.
  • Collaborates with Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) by delivering data‑driven insights derived from IE principles and simulation modeling. Effectively communicates analytical findings to cross‑functional teams and supports decision‑making to guide and optimize future capital investments and strategic initiatives.
  • Core attributes: Strong technical working knowledge of DES Software (Simio), PowerBI, Minitab, Databases (SQL/Azure), SAP Production system, Lean Manufacturing, Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), Material Handling Systems (MHS), and Learning Management Systems (LMS).
  • Desired attributes: Programming/creating Java, Python, C/C++, VB, and/or .NET applications. Data collection, normalization, conducting statistical analysis of data, and summarizing results in graphical or tabular form.
  • Technical Expertise: Design, development and implementation of technical solutions to new or highly complex problems that cannot be solved using existing methods. Uses a forward‑looking approach when analyzing and implementing technical solutions. Strong system‑level troubleshooting skills. Continuous improvement and standardization mindset with strong training skills. Technical leadership/architectural ownership and accountability.
  • Project Management: Effective team contributor; provides appropriate feedback and helps motivate team members to work toward common goals. Ability to recognize and respond proactively to project challenges and draws upon appropriate resources from other functional areas as needed to mitigate risk.
  • Communication: Demonstrates excellent written and oral communication skills when engaging with customers, suppliers, contractors, and internal stakeholders. Ability to prepare and deliver engineering presentations to a variety of audiences.
  • Collaboration: Actively engages in problem solving and creative thinking process. Inherent responsibility to train and mentor peers when appropriate.
