Job summary

Overton Industries is seeking an Industrial Engineering Intern to support manufacturing operations for Summer 2027. You will help strengthen shop-floor systems, improve documentation, tighten process control, and streamline workflows while collaborating with engineers and leadership on high-impact projects.

The candidate should be pursuing Industrial/Manufacturing Engineering, with strong Excel skills, knowledge of process mapping, and familiarity with CAD tools.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong skills with Excel; experience in process mapping is a plus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
• Experience with CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, MasterCam, Wintriss, JobBOSS) is a bonus.

Responsibilities

• Document current manufacturing processes and standard work.
• Support process control initiatives with data collection and analysis.
• Map and improve production workflows to reduce waste and improve throughput.
• Collaborate with operators and supervisors to capture floor knowledge for documentation.
• Assist with root cause analysis and continuous improvement projects.
• Help develop or refine visual aids, work instructions, and control plans.
• Present findings and recommendations to engineering and operations leadership.

Position Summary

Overton Industries is looking for an Industrial Engineering Intern to support our manufacturing operations for Summer 2027. This role is focused on strengthening the systems that keep our shop floor running efficiently — improving documentation, tightening process control, and streamlining workflows. You'll work directly with engineers, operators, and leadership on projects that have a visible, lasting impact on how we manufacture.

Key Responsibilities

• Document current manufacturing processes and standard work, identifying gaps and opportunities for improvement.
• Support process control initiatives, including data collection, analysis, and recommendations to reduce variation and defects.
• Map and improve production workflows to reduce waste and improve throughput.
• Partner with operators and supervisors to capture floor-level knowledge and translate it into clear, usable documentation.
• Assist with root cause analysis and continuous improvement projects.
• Help develop or refine visual aids, work instructions, and process control plans.
• Present findings and recommendations to engineering and operations leadership.

Qualifications

• Education: Currently pursuing a degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
• Skills:
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel in particular); familiarity with process mapping or CAD tools is a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with any of the following is a bonus (not required); SolidWorks, MasterCam, AutoCAD, JobBOSS, or Wintriss press/machine monitoring systems.
