Job summary

Lowe’s Home Centers, LLC in Mooresville, NC is seeking an Industrial Engineering Intern to help streamline operations in a high‑volume distribution environment. You will work closely with experienced engineers to apply classroom knowledge to real‑world logistics challenges and contribute to process improvements.

The 10‑week Summer Internship Program runs May 24 through July 30 and includes hands‑on projects across our stores, distribution centers, and corporate offices.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain or related field.
• Expected graduation dates of December 2027 or May 2028.
• Effective verbal communication skills.
• Physical stamina to alternate between sitting and standing for extended periods.
• Basic computer proficiency.
• Ability to wear required PPE and work a full shift with a meal break.
• Physical capability to perform routine movements in DC environments.

Responsibilities

• Apply lean principles and industrial engineering methods to warehouse processes.
• Analyze material flow, labor standards, and equipment utilization.
• Develop recommendations to improve productivity, safety, and quality.
• Use data‑driven tools to support cost reduction and throughput improvements.

Minimum Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain or related field.

• Basic computer proficiency.
• Ability to wear required PPE and work a full shift with a meal break.
• Physical capability to perform routine movements (bending, reaching, lifting, climbing) required in DC environments.

Preferred Skills/Experience

• 3.0 cumulative GPA.
• Proficient in MS Office programs (specifically in Power Point, Excel and data analysis tools).
• Strong interpersonal, problem solving, analytical thinking, organizational and communication skills.
• Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma (basic competency in DMAIC concepts), basic project management skills and/or time studies methodologies experience.
• Relevant internship or co‑op experience in industrial engineering or logistics is a plus.
• Experience in a leadership role at work or within a campus organization.

Working Conditions

Environmental factors vary by location. You may be working in both inside and outside weather conditions. Exposure to varying climates, including extreme heat or cold, wet, damp, humid, windy, or drafty conditions, is possible. You may be exposed to constant or intermittent noises in addition to moving or shaking objects and equipment.

Lifting and moving merchandise methods will vary depending on role of associate, weight of merchandise, and/or volume of product; associates must follow lifting guidelines. A single lift by one associate should not exceed 75 pounds (for Store associates) or 70 pounds (for Distribution Center associates) with or without an accommodation. Team lifts should be utilized minimally starting at 75 pounds (for Store associates) or 70 pounds (for Distribution Center associates), or when an individual feels a lift is beyond their personal limitations. Powered equipment should be used when needed depending on load and volume. (Associates must have proper training to utilize powered equipment or ask a trained coworker for assistance).
