Job summary

Legrand is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to join the Lighting Division in Chicago, IL. This role involves all aspects of process engineering, optimizing operations, and implementing lean manufacturing concepts. The successful candidate will lead continuous improvement activities and provide technical support for equipment.

With a salary range of $85,000 to $115,000 plus bonuses and a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and retirement plans, this is a unique opportunity to grow within a dynamic team.

Qualifications

  • 3 to 7 years engineering experience, preferably in metal fabrication.
  • Knowledge of machine programming and tooling selection.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Lean manufacturing tools.

Job Description

Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineer to join the Lighting Division Focal Point IE Team in Chicago, IL. The successful candidate will be responsible for every aspect of process engineering, production standard costs, tooling/equipment procurement, improving operating performance, identifying and reducing waste, and troubleshooting. This person will coordinate many continuous improvement activities for the business, including the development and implementation of lean manufacturing concepts to systematically identify and eliminate waste. It will also provide a developmental opportunity to learn more about the systems and processes at Focal Point along with increasing overall business acumen. This position reports to the Director of Operations.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, optimize, and maintain equipment programs, operating parameters, process settings, tooling, jigs, fixtures, routing standards and work instructions
  • Collaborate with the manufacturing team to maximize Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) through process improvements, equipment optimization, scrap reduction, and reduction of downtime
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for fabrication and paint production equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation
  • Support operators in troubleshooting process issues and developing best practices for machine operation
  • Monitor process performance and analyze production data to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Partner with Maintenance and Production teams to develop and implement world‑class maintenance practices, developing and standardizing preventative and predictive maintenance procedures
  • Utilize Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) tools and methodologies to improve equipment reliability and performance
  • Participate in root cause investigations and corrective action activities for equipment and process failures
  • Analyze and optimize facility layouts, workflow, and material flow to eliminate waste and improve productivity
  • Participate in Kaizen events focused on improving safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and cost by applying lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies to streamline operations
  • Collaborate with New Product Development and Requisition Engineering teams to provide Design for Manufacturing (DFM) guidance
  • Plan, justify, execute, and monitor Capital projects related to manufacturing equipment and tooling implementation and sun‑setting
  • Support new product introductions by ensuring manufacturing readiness and process capability
  • Evaluate current manufacturing capacity utilization and future volume requirements, proactively escalating any risks and developing recommendations to alleviate bottlenecks
  • Establish and maintain a cooperative relationship with all support functions
Qualifications
  • 3 to 7 years of professional engineering work experience as Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineer within the manufacturing industry. Metal fabrication preferred
  • Knowledge of machine/CNC programming, fixture and JIG design, and proper tooling selection
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks or similar modeling software, AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited program
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Lean manufacturing tools and technologies
  • Knowledge of quality control programs such as SPC, ISO, or Six Sigma is preferred
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance, tooling, and gauging designs
  • GD&T knowledge and its applicationKnowledge of process and design failure mode and defect analysis (PFMEA and DFMEA)

Salary Range

Salary Range: $85,000 - $115,000 starting base plus bonus
