Job description

The future of aerospace and defense starts here. Ursa Major was founded to revolutionize how America and its allies access and apply high-performance propulsion, from hypersonics to solid rocket motors, satellite maneuvering and launch. We design and deliver propulsion and defense systems that solve the most urgent and critical national security demands. The Industrial Engineer is responsible for analyzing, designing, and optimizing production processes to improve safety, quality, productivity, and cost-effectiveness. This role will drive the adoptions of data-driven methods, engineering principles, factory simulation modeling, and continuous improvement tools to streamline workflows, reduce waste, and support sustainable growth. Success in this position will require establishing IE standards for Ursa Major and leading through influence with teams across the business. High ownership and enthusiasm for change and transformation are a must.

Responsibilities
  • Production Optimization & Process Improvement: Analyze manufacturing and business processes to identify bottlenecks, waste, and improvement opportunities. Develop and implement solutions to optimize workflow, layout, ergonomics, and equipment utilization. Conduct time studies, work sampling, and capacity analysis to set standards and improve throughput. Design and improve plant layouts to optimize material flow, safety, and flexibility in collaboration with area owners. Use simulation models and CAD layouts together to validate and optimize new and existing configurations. Support capacity planning and scenario analysis for volume changes, new lines, and product mix variations. Document standard work and best practices for capacity modeling and production line design.
  • Factory Simulation & Digital Modeling: Build, maintain, and validate factory and line simulation models using factory modeling software. Simulate different production scenarios (demand changes, new product introductions, equipment changes, staffing levels) to assess impact on throughput, WIP, lead time, and resource utilization. Use simulation results to inform layout design, line balancing, capacity planning, and investment decisions. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate real-world constraints into accurate digital models and communicate findings in a clear, actionable way.
  • Quality & Safety: Work with Quality and EHS to improve product quality and workplace safety through better processes and ergonomics. Participate in root cause analysis (5 Whys, Fishbone, etc.) and corrective/preventive actions. Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, regulations, and internal policies.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, related degree, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience: 2+ years of experience in industrial engineering, manufacturing, or operations environment in a product-focused environment, with a proven track record of leading line transformation or production scaling. Experience in aerospace, oil & gas, chemical processing, or pharmaceutical preferred.
Skills and Tools
  • Strong knowledge of industrial engineering methods (time studies, work measurement, line balancing, facility layout, plant modeling software).
  • Expertise with factory simulation software (Technomatix, DELIMA, or similar).
  • Familiarity with CAD software for layout design (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar).
  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools (Excel, Power BI, Minitab or similar).
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems is a plus.
  • Comfortable leading change and facilitating cross-functional teams.
  • Effective communication skills, able to work across departments and levels of the organization.
