Job summary

United Launch Alliance in Decatur, AL is seeking an Industrial Engineer to apply Lean methods to improve processes, resources, and product lifecycles to boost cost, quality, and schedule performance. You will develop models and data analyses, support product design teams, and drive value stream improvements across manufacturing and services, coordinating with managers and suppliers.

  • Apply industrial engineering concepts to promote and implement changes in manufacturing, engineering and service operations.
  • Develop models, data bases and spreadsheets to analyze data and provide summary analysis and metrics for consultation to customers.
  • Apply industrial engineering techniques to product and process design teams throughout all phases of the product lifecycle.
  • Research, design, develop, improve and implement processes to enhance schedule performance, lower cost and improve quality with Lean concepts.
  • Manage, define, negotiate, and control project scope, cost, and timing; perform risk analysis using project-management tools.
  • Analyze and design value streams, including capacity, throughput, and logistics.

Job Overview & Responsibilities

As an Industrial Engineer at ULA's Decatur location, this individual will use engineering and Lean methods to improve processes, resources, and product lifecycles to enhance cost, quality, and schedule performance. Key responsibilities include:

  • Use the application of Industrial Engineering concepts, techniques, analysis and decision tools under general supervision to promote and implement changes in manufacturing, engineering and service operations.
  • Use development of models, data bases and spreadsheets to analyze data (e.g., statistics, operations research, engineering economics), and provide summary analysis and metrics for consultation to customers (e.g., management, departments, suppliers).
  • Apply general industrial engineering techniques and concepts to product and process design teams throughout all phases of product lifecycle, resulting in a robust product design and work statement that meets program requirements.
  • Research, design, develop, improve and implement processes to enhance schedule performance, lower cost, and improve quality, through the application of Lean and other Industrial Engineering concepts for large scale systems integration and asset utilization.
  • Manage, define, negotiate, and control the scope, cost, and timing of projects, and perform risk analysis using project management tools (e.g., work break-down structure, precedence network, resource allocation).
  • Use engineering methods (e.g., mathematical models, simulation, statistics) to develop optimal process designs and efficient utilization of resources (e.g., facilities, personnel, materials, equipment) in the creation and validation of products.
  • Analyze and design value stream, including capability, capacity (e.g., make/buy, supplier selection, risk analysis, supplier performance), throughput, work flow and logistics (e.g., critical path, lead-time, transportation, factory layout).
