Job summary

Bowhead seeks an Industrial Engineer to support Navy programs, evaluating manufacturing practices, managing production schedules, and improving processes across four shipyards from PMO 555. The role may allow up to 2 days telecommuting after 90 days and is on-site at the DC Naval Shipyard (Washington Navy Yard).

Responsibilities include MODSIM efforts, layout tracking, and lean improvements to shipyard maintenance and manpower. Must hold Secret clearance and US citizenship.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering or civil engineering or related field (i.e., Modeling and Simulation, or Production Management).
  • 4+ years of relevant experience as an Industrial or Manufacturing Engineer designing and developing production layouts for shipyards, production facilities, warehouses, and/or machine shops.
  • Masters in Engineering will be considered in lieu of experience.
  • Shipyard experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Modeling and Simulation (MODSIM) across shipyards to track layouts, floor plans and equipment staging.
  • Apply process improvements to shipyard maintenance and manpower requirements.
  • Use calculations to determine current and potential productivity of a process.
  • Communicate technical recommendations clearly to leadership.
  • Develop relationships with coworkers to implement productivity changes.
  • Other duties as assigned

Overview

Industrial Engineer (SIOP-2026-25825):

Bowhead seeks an Industrial Engineer to join our team in providing program management support in a broad range of services to and assisting our US Navy clients. The Industrial Engineer will evaluate current manufacturing practices, manage production schedules, process work flows, enforce quality control, and improve production processes across the 4 public shipyards (PHNS, PSNS, PNSY, and NNSY) on behalf of PMO 555.

This position could allow for up to 2 days telecommuting (after at least 90 days) and on-site at the DC Naval Shipyard (Washington Navy Yard).

Responsibilities

The SIOP Industrial Engineer will also be actively involved in the management of Modeling and Simulation (MODSIM) efforts across the shipyards to track layouts, floor plans, and equipment staging to ensure lean, streamlined access and up-to-date logs (utilizing RFID or other tracking tools). Assist in modeling and streamlining to apply process improvements to shipyard maintenance and manpower requirements through industrial engineering process improvement proficiencies and modeling

Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Use of both basic and advanced calculations to determine the current and potential productivity of a process. The ability to use calculus, trigonometry, algebra and other types of math is important in this position.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are necessary for anIndustrial Engineer. They must be aware of a business's needs while making technical recommendations understandable.
  • Good leadership skills assist the Industrial Engineer in implementing productivity changes. The ability to develop relationships with coworkers is useful when making recommendations.
  • Ability to create viable solutions for a variety of challenges. Whether it is to improve the production of a certain product or to reduce waste (industrial or time), the ability to develop a plan to overcome the problem is important.
  • Analytical skills to evaluate and interpret data and create reports to describe results for leadership and stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree in industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering or civil engineering or related field i.e., Modeling and Simulation, or Production Management
  • Four or more (4+) years relevant expertise and experience as an Industrial or Manufacturing Engineer designing and developing production layouts for shipyards, production facilities, warehouses, and/or machine shops to increase productivity and quality standards.
    • Candidates with a Masters in Engineering will be considered in lieusome experience
  • Shipyard experience is preferred
  • Experience reviewing current production schedules and processes to find potential improvements, designing the layouts of the facilities and estimating production costs.
  • The following skills are Highly Desired:
    • PE Certification a plus
    • Modeling and Simulation experience a plus
    • Operations Research a plus
    • Shipyard experience preferred including Machine Shop, or Factory Production experience
    • This position will require high percentageof travel to other shipyards

Target salary is $125,000/year to $145,000/year, commensurate with experience

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must currently hold a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
