As an industrial engineer at Wegmans, you will be responsible for optimizing operational efficiency and productivity within your distribution facilities. You'll provide technical expertise to drive cost reductions, improve quality and enhance overall performance. You will leverage a strong understanding of industrial engineering principles, Warehouse Management Systems, Labor Management Systems and project management knowledge to support overall performance and ensure standards are met. You will accomplish this through analysis of existing processes, development and maintenance of Engineered Labor Standards, and the identification and implementation of improvement opportunities.

What You'll Do
  • Lead the execution of the Labor Standards Program, acting as the subject matter expert on the labor management system
  • Conduct detailed analyses of processes, material flow, and resource utilization; identify bottlenecks, constraints, and areas for improvement in terms of safety, quality, delivery, and cost
  • Develop and implement process improvement initiatives using lean principles, Six Sigma methodologies, and other relevant techniques
  • Lead kaizen events and workshops to engage site teams in problem-solving and process optimization
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently, from initiation to completion, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet defined objectives, including developing project plans, tracking progress, and communicating updates to stakeholders
  • Identify opportunities for standardization and develop standardized work instructions, procedures, and best practices; facilitate knowledge sharing and best practice implementation across the organization
  • Contribute to the design and optimization of facility layouts to improve material flow, reduce waste, and enhance operational efficiency
  • Identify and implement cost reduction initiatives through process optimization, automation, waste elimination, and improved resource utilization while developing cost-benefit analyses for proposed projects
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including Distribution and Supply Chain, to ensure alignment and effective implementation of improvement initiatives
  • Provide training and coaching to on-site teams on industrial engineering principles, lean techniques, and other relevant topics
  • Partner with IT personnel and external vendors to implement software solutions that enhance productivity
Requirements
  • 3 or more years' experience in an industrial or mechanical engineering role or bachelor’s degree in engineering with 1 or more years’ experience
  • Process improvement (Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, or Continuous Improvement)
  • Workflow analysis and data modeling
  • Time studies and capacity planning
  • Project management (Agile or traditional)
  • Technical proficiency in tools such as Excel (advanced), AutoCAD or SolidWorks, and Minitab/JMP/statistical tool
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), material handling equipment, and automation technologies
