Hapman in Kalamazoo, MI seeks an Industrial Engineer to collaborate across shop floor and office teams to reduce waste and optimize production layouts. The role focuses on efficient systems, cost reduction, and quality adherence while supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

The engineer will design and maintain layouts, processes, and workflows for integrated use of workers, machines, materials, information, and energy, ensuring productivity gains and cost controls.

Formación

• BS degree in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in mechanical/industrial/manufacturing engineering.
• Strong knowledge of metalworking and welding shop practices.
• Excellent blueprint reading, GD&T, tolerancing, Property of Materials, Heat Treating and Foundry know-how.

• Perform Kaizen by facilitating product cost reduction and process efficiency events.
• Develop and implement instructions and training for processes.
• Liaison between engineering, processing, and manufacturing on design and redesign.
• Assist with process and facility layout changes.
• Support CAD file directory administration.
• Visual item master administration.
• Leadership role facilitating ECR and ECN program.
• Reviewing and improving processes, specifications, and related information.
• Designing production processes to maximize efficiency and reduce waste.
• Developing process improvements and technological upgrades.
• Designing control systems to monitor and minimize costs and production issues.
• Developing design and production standards with management and users via cross-functional teams.
• Preparing material and equipment lists, purchase orders, cost analyses, and production costs.
• Managing process documentation and preparing process control reports; ROI analyses for equipment purchases.
• Support the SD and SE initiatives.
• Tooling tracking and preventative maintenance of jigs/fixtures and tooling.
• Support the Safety team with focus on shop floor ergonomics.
• Training and presentations as required.
• Any additional tasks or support as required.

The Industrial Engineer position is responsible for working with various departmental teams to eliminate waste in production and workflow processes, making sure systems make the best-integrated use of workers, machines, materials, information, and energy. This role is multi-faceted and focuses on both shop floor and office workflow. Focuses include designing and maintaining engineering and production layouts and processes with the purpose of increasing productivity, reducing costs, and ensuring quality standards are maintained.

Qualifications

• Dedication to excellence and quality output
• BS degree in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent
• Five years’ minimum experience in mechanical, industrial and/or manufacturing engineering environment or related metal fabrication experience
• Strong working knowledge of metalworking, welding shop practices and systems
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Excellent blueprint reading, GD&T, Tolerancing, Property of Materials, Heat Treating and Foundry know-how
• Advanced knowledge of general computer and AutoCAD software usage, directory structures, product and bill of material structures, manufacturing routings and general knowledge of manufacturing (ERP) software systems
