North Houston
Our client, a large automotive organization in North Houston, is looking for an experienced Continuous Improvement / Industrial Engineer who knows how to turn Lean principles into measurable operational results.
We are not looking for Lean buzzwords on a resume. The right person will have a track record of identifying opportunities, implementing improvements, and being able to quantify the outcome—cost savings, increased throughput, improved efficiency, reduced labor hours, improved cycle times, or other measurable results.
This person should be comfortable on the manufacturing floor conducting time studies, analyzing workflows, developing value stream maps, and working directly with operations to implement and sustain improvements.
A major upcoming initiative will involve transitioning operations toward a single-flow facility, so experience leading plant optimization, facility flow, layout, or other significant industrial improvement projects would be highly valuable.
What will you be doing?
- Lead Lean and continuous improvement initiatives across a large automotive manufacturing operation.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve throughput, productivity, efficiency, cost, quality, and overall operational performance.
- Conduct time studies, cycle-time analysis, capacity analysis, line balancing, and workflow assessments to identify constraints and improvement opportunities.
- Develop and utilize Value Stream Maps to evaluate current-state operations and develop actionable future-state processes.
- Establish measurable objectives for improvement projects and track results to demonstrate tangible operational and financial impact.
- Lead Kaizen events and other structured improvement initiatives based on operational data and business priorities.
- Develop standardized work, operating procedures, process documentation, and sustainable performance measures.
- Partner directly with production leadership and frontline employees to implement and sustain process improvements.
- Analyze manufacturing layouts, material movement, labor utilization, equipment placement, and production flow.
- Support a major initiative to transition operations toward a single-flow facility, including process design, layout optimization, workflow, and implementation.
- Lead or support industrial improvement projects from initial analysis through implementation and measurement of results.
- Present project results, recommendations, cost savings, and performance improvements to leadership.
- Help build a culture where continuous improvement is measurable, repeatable, and owned throughout the organization.
What do you need to have?
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering required.
- Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Industrial Distribution strongly preferred.
Experience
- 5+ years of relevant manufacturing/engineering experience required; 10+ years strongly preferred.
- Significant experience applying Lean manufacturing principles in an industrial manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated history of delivering quantifiable results through process or continuous improvement initiatives.
- Hands-on experience conducting time studies and developing Value Stream Maps.
- Experience with tools such as standardized work, line balancing, root cause analysis, Kaizen, capacity analysis, waste reduction, cycle-time improvement, and process optimization.
- Ability to work directly on the manufacturing floor and translate operational data into practical improvements.
- Experience leading facility optimization, manufacturing layout, plant flow, single-piece flow, cellular manufacturing, or other major industrial improvement projects is highly preferred.
- Automotive or similarly complex/high-volume manufacturing experience is a plus.
Why consider it?
This is an opportunity to take on high-visibility projects with measurable impact inside a large automotive organization. The company has a strong track record of developing people and providing opportunities to grow both vertically into leadership and horizontally across the organization.
This is not a role built around maintaining an existing Lean program. They want someone who can identify opportunities, execute improvements, and show the results.
