Job summary

Flex is seeking an Industrial Engineer to join our team in Coopersville, MI. The role aims to increase productivity by optimizing workers, methods, and technology across manufacturing operations.

Reporting to the Business Excellence Manager, you will drive process improvements, participate in NPI, and collaborate with design, production, and sales to deliver efficient, cost-effective results. Willingness to travel up to 5% nationally and internationally is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or related field.
• 5 years’ experience in Engineering in the high technology electronics industry or related area.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Simulation Software and Excel Pivot reports.
• Travel national and international up to 5%.
• Experience in Automotive manufacturing or automation fields is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide process time estimation to the quote team.
• Simulate process, materials and manufacturing workflow and advise process engineers.
• Coordinate process planning during NPI with takt and cycle time considerations.
• Review prototyping results and give feedback to NPI and sales.
• Develop and apply work measurement programs to set labor standards.
• Analyze staff utilization, layouts, and production data to optimize efficiency.
• Recommend methods to reduce waste and improve throughput (Lean, Six Sigma).
• Confer with management to implement plans and recommendations.
• Develop cost planning and production control systems to ensure quality.
• Design or improve plant locations and distribution systems.

Reporting to the Business Excellence Manager, The Industrial Engineer will be responsible for increasing productivity through the management of workers, methods of business organization, and technology to solve organizational, production, and related problems efficiently.

What a typical day looks like:

• Provides process time estimation to the quote team.
• Simulates process, materials and manufacturing workflow and gives input to process engineers by using REFA, MOST, WITNESS and adequate tools.
• During NPI coordinates process planning and set up with respect to takt, cycle time and direct labor requirement.
• Reviews result during prototyping and trial runs and gives feedback to NPI and sales team.
• work measurement programs and examine work samples to develop standards for labor utilization.
• Examines staff utilization, facility layout, and operational data, such as production costs, process flow charts, and production schedules, to define efficient utilization of workers and equipment.
• Recommends methods for improving worker efficiency and reducing waste of materials and utilities, such as restructuring job duties, reorganizing workflow, relocation workstations and equipment, and purchase of equipment.
• Conference with management and engineering staff to implement plans and recommendations.
• May develop management systems for cost reviews, financial planning, wage and salary administration, and job evaluation.
• Develop management control systems to aid in financial planning and cost reviews, and design production planning and control systems to coordinate activities and ensure product quality.
• Design or improve systems for the physical distribution of goods and services, as well as defining the most efficient plant locations.
• Manages and supports initiatives to increase throughput, reduce cost and improve performance in constrained areas like Lean, Automation and/or Six Sigma projects.

The experience we’re looking to add to our team:

• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering,
• 5 years’ experience in Engineering in the high Technology Electronics Industry or related area.
• Proficient with design tools (e.g., AutoCAD Simulation Software
• Proficiency in Excel and Pivot Point reports
• Travel national and international up to 5%
• Experience in Automotive manufacturing, Automation experience a related field is highly desirable.
