• Test and troubleshoot switchgear, transfer switches, and substation transformers.
• Maintain 125 VDC electrical systems; inspect for hazards and ensure code compliance.
• Lead or assist work crews on assigned projects; train helpers as needed.

Job Overview

Under general direction of the Industrial Electrical Supervisor, troubleshoots, repairs, and installs motors, transformers, conduit, lighting, variable frequency drives, and associated power distribution system components associated with Board managed utility and industrial facilities. May lead work crews for assigned projects.

What you will be doing:

Installs power supply wiring and conduit such as: EMT, O-CAL, Rigid conduit, MC cable, strut, cable trays. Troubleshoots and repairs electrical components, wiring diagrams, transformers, motors, panels, and circuits. Troubleshoots and repairs motor control centers and control equipment up to 4160 volts AC. Removes and replaces ballasts, transformers, capacitors, sockets, starters, fuses, lamps in lighting systems and trouble shoots PLC circuits. Responsible for maintaining 125 VDC electric systems. Test operate 25kV switchgear and utility grade substation transformers. Performs maintenance and operational testing on Terminal and other utility type switchgear, automatic transfer switches, fast acting static switches. Locates ground faults and repairs or replaces damaged cables using equipment and tools. Responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems such as: switch gears, motor controllers, electrical panels, CT cabinets, breakers, lighting, and power supplies. Maintains Journeyman electrician's license or identification card to meet state regulations. Responsible for testing electrical systems or continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, using testing devices, such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, or oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system. Inspects systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes. Assists with directing or training workers to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures. Responsible for diagnosing malfunctioning systems, apparatus, or components, using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem. Orders parts, supplies and equipment when authorized by supervisor. Participates in Airport winter weather operations as required.

What you need:

Completion of high school curriculum or equivalent. Three (3) years of maintenance/repair experience in commercial/industrial electrical systems, formal training in electrical technology or a related field. Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the above. Possession of a Journeyman’s Electrician or Journeyman’s Industrial Electrician License issued by the State of Texas. Possession of certification, or ability to successfully obtain the following certifications: The State of Texas “Certified Wastewater Collection System Operator” Class I certification within one year of employment. The State of Texas Class D Water Works Operator certification within one year of employment. Universal Refrigerant certification from an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved provider within one year of employment. Ability to pass a color vision deficiency test. Ability to pass a medical physical examination. Ability to periodically work on-call outside of normal operating hours including weekends and holidays. Possession of a valid Class C driver's license.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Knowledge of methods, equipment and materials used in maintenance of electro/mechanical systems. Knowledge of the principles of microcomputer-based control systems and environmental energy equipment such as heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions applicable in an industrial environment. Knowledge of and skill in the operation of electronic test equipment. Ability to assemble light electrical conduit runs to deliver electrical service. Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair malfunctions/defects in electronic and pneumatic equipment. Ability to use test equipment and hand tools associated with the repair, maintenance and installation of electronic systems. Ability to train assistants and to assign and lead work. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, specifications and diagrams of instrumentation and control systems. Ability to document work and maintain accurate records of installation, test results and repairs. Ability to respond to emergency call-up on a rotating basis to effect repairs either over the phone or on-site.

Special requirements:

This is a designated safety sensitive position as defined in DFW Airport’s Drug and Alcohol Administrative Policy and Procedure. Applicants selected for this position will be required to pass a drug test prior to employment and to submit to drug screening on a random basis during the length of their employment in the safety sensitive position. Must obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Airport Identification/Access Badge (badge) in accordance with Department of Homeland Security Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requirements in Chapter 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 1500 et al., and DFW Airport’s Airport Security Program within thirty (30) days from date of employment and maintain qualification for a SIDA badge upon each badge renewal. This is a designated Essential Employee position as defined in DFW Airport’s Categories and Classifications Administrative Policy and Procedure. An essential employee is one whose attendance is required to maintain airport operations during an emergency or inclement weather situation.

Effort:

Works in an industrial environment. Works in and around Board facilities, airport grounds and airport operations areas; works near roadways and moving aircraft. Performs manual labor, frequently exerting forces equivalent to lifting to approximately 50 pounds and occasionally exerting forces equivalent to lifting to approximately 100 pounds. Works in conditions subject to inclement weather from below 35 to above 100. Climbs stairs and ladders, frequently while carrying tools and/or equipment. Stands for prolonged periods of time. Works in awkward positions such as stooping, squatting or with arms above the head for extended periods of time. Occasionally works in confined spaces. Uses hand, power, and precision tools. Communicates by telephone, two-way radio and in person. Listens for high-pitched warning of steam leaking. Uses near visual acuity in diagnosing and repairing electrical systems. Uses color perception in working with electrical wiring and components. Drives to locations on Airport property.
