Industrial Electrician / Panel Builder - Job Description

Weiler Engineering, Inc. is seeking an Industrial Electrician / Panel Builder to join our team in Elgin, IL.

Summary:

This position works within the Electrical Build group and is responsible for assembly and wiring control cabinet panels, sub-assemblies, products, or systems of automation equipment; and to provide electrical support for debugging operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Assemble custom machinery that includes panel building and installation of electrical components using electrical schematics, engineering drawings, and job specifications with written and verbal instructions.
  • Conduct functional and continuity tests of electrical assemblies, components, and wire harnesses using a voltmeter.
  • Interpret wiring diagrams and accurately wire components such as heaters, sensors, relays, circuit breakers, motor drives, push buttons, switches, solenoids, and more.
  • Install junction boxes, wireways, and seal tight connections between machine control panels and subpanels. Wire transformers, PLC's, motors, solenoids, and sensors as required.
  • Measure and cut mounting rails, wiring ducts, and hardware. Mount components neatly to panels with attention to detail and proper alignment.
  • Punch holes and install fastening components.

Required Education and Experience:

  • 5 years experience building control panels and wiring OEM machines.
  • Experience in electrical assembly with proper wiring practices and electrical test equipment.
  • Knowledge and experience measuring high and low voltage machine power and controls.
  • Attention to detail, strong mechanical and technical aptitude, and desire to ensure tasks are performed timely and correctly.
  • Basic electrical tools required for performing job duties, including wire strippers, voltage testers, and screwdrivers.

Additional Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in the manufacturing of automated machines and equipment.
  • Experience with pneumatics and machine testing is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills required (verbal, written, and interpersonal).
  • Detail-oriented with strong mechanical and technical aptitude.
  • Strong organization and time management skills to efficiently prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrate strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to walk, bend, squat, carry, stoop, kneel, crouch, or stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Frequent lifting and/or moving up to 50 lbs, and occasional lifting and/or moving up to 75 lbs with assistance.
  • Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
  • Proficient in operating hand power tools for drilling and tapping tasks with the ability to differentiate between various colors to ensure precise execution.
  • Manual dexterity to quickly move hands and arms to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
  • Capable of navigating stairs and using step ladders as required for the job. Ability to move or transfer products with a fork truck, pallet jack, or by hand.
  • Occasional work in tight spaces, including lying on one's back with arms extended above the head for extended periods as needed.
  • Arm-hand steadiness to keep hands and arms steady while moving or holding in one position.
  • Frequent reaching with hands and arms and frequent lifting and/or moving up to 50 lbs without assistance.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, full color perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to bend, squat, sit, and stand for prolonged periods of time.
