Job summary

Georgia-Pacific LLC in Talladega, AL is hiring Industrial Electrical Technicians to support mill maintenance and production reliability. The role offers a $3,500 sign-on bonus, starting pay of $32–$44 per hour, and a 12-hour rotating shift with weekend/holiday overtime as needed.

You will troubleshoot PLCs, VFDs, motor controls, read schematics, and perform reactive and preventive maintenance to improve equipment performance.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years industrial electrical experience.
• Experience with single and 3-phase electrical repair and troubleshooting up to 480 Volts, industrial controls, motor controls, drives.
• Experience reading and following electrical/mechanical schematics.
• Experience with instrumentation, automation, and electrical components.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and troubleshoot PLCs, VFDs, overloads, and electrical equipment.
• Troubleshoot and maintain switch gear of various sizes.
• Perform reactive and preventive maintenance on production equipment.
• Apply experience to identify and implement improvements.

Salary and Benefits

• Our starting pay is at $32-$44/hr. depending on experience.
• $ 5.00/hour shift premium for any hours worked Friday – Sunday (overtime rules apply).
• Relocation Benefits may be available
• You will have the ability to increase your compensation based on skills and contribution to the overall performance of the mill.

Shift

• Only candidates who are flexible and available to work any shift will be considered. This will include overtime, holidays, and weekends as needed.
• 12-hour rotating shift (rotates every 28 days)
• The week of orientation will be 9:00am to 5:00pm Monday and 8:00am to 5:00pm Tuesday through Friday. Regular shift will be assigned after orientation.
• Shift Hours: (Day Shift: 6:00am to 6:00pm 2/2/3 Schedule)
• Night Shift: Sunday- Wednesday 6pm-6:00 am

What You Will Do

• Maintain and troubleshoot Allen Bradley Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Allen Bradley Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), electronic overload units, and other types of electrical equipment
• Troubleshoot and maintain various sizes of switch gear
• Performing various reactive and preventative maintenance tasks on production equipment.
• Uses experience to identify and implement improvements.
• Perform both breakdown and planned electrical maintenance

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

• A minimum of 2 years of industrial electrical experience.
• Experience with single and 3-phase electrical repair and troubleshooting up to 480 Volts, Industrial Controls, Motor Controls, Drives, and Electrical Distribution.
• Experience with industrial instrumentation, automation, and electrical components.
• Experience reading and following electrical and mechanical schematics.

What Will Put You Ahead

• Associate degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Systems, Instrumentation, or Electronic Technology AND at least two (2) years of electrical/electronic and/or instrument & control troubleshooting experience in a manufacturing environment OR four (4) years equivalent experience in a manufacturing environment
• Experience in repairing, troubleshooting, and programming operator interfaces, and Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and experience with Distributed Control (DC).
• Mechanical maintenance experience, including fluid handling and conveyor systems, hydraulic systems and accumulators, and valve identification and application and welding.
• Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Software (CMMS)

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks including climbing ladders and working at heights or in confined spaces.
• Ability to work in a sawmill environment with dust, noise, heat, and cold conditions.
