Job summary

M.C. Dean is seeking an Industrial Electrical Technician in the Washington, DC area. A Journeyman or Master Electrician license and at least three years in industrial settings are required to perform maintenance, testing, calibration, installations, and safety-compliant work.

You will read blueprints and electrical diagrams, utilize infrared thermography for predictive maintenance, and collaborate with engineers to improve reliability and productivity in mission-critical facilities.

Qualifications

• Must have a Journeyman Electrician level of expertise and be able to read blueprints/schematics.
• Experience with infrared thermography and predictive maintenance is preferred.
• Familiarity with NFPA/NEC safety standards and industrial electrical controls is required.

License/Certification Requirement: Candidates must be certified and experienced as a DC Journeyman or Master Electrician, or possess the qualifications necessary to obtain one. A valid DC Journeyman or Master Electrician license is a mandatory requirement and must be obtained prior to hiring.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation of industrial electrical equipment.
• Conduct tests and inspections to ensure proper functioning and safety of electrical systems.
• Utilize infrared thermography for predictive maintenance, identifying potential issues before they lead to equipment failure.
• Interpret and work from blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
• Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations, ensuring compliance with NFPA, NEC, and other relevant standards.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed, including reports on inspections, tests, and repairs.
• Collaborate with other technicians and engineers to resolve complex electrical issues.
• Perform complete corrective and preventative maintenance, testing and calibration of equipment, systems, associated devices, and controls.
• Recommend changes to job plans and job tasks to increase productivity and equipment reliability.
• Perform complete installations of various types of electrical equipment, utilizing basic electrical, and mechanical skills as necessary.
• Use of tools and test equipment associated with this line of work.
• Understanding and use of industry standards for testing, repair, maintenance, and calibration; and proficient at interpreting industrial electrical diagrams.
• Understand and practice all pertinent electrical safety standards such as Lock Out Tag out and Arc Flash.
• Preparation of accurate written reports of work, test results, calibration reports, and work orders.
• Experience installing conduit and wiring systems.
• The Industrial Electrical Technician will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, testing, and installation of industrial electrical equipment. This role requires Journeyman Electrician technicians with a minimum of three years of experience in industrial settings, preferably with specific expertise in infrared thermography.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or GED, along with 6+ years of progressive, hands‑on experience in facilities maintenance or complex mission‑critical environments, is required. This experience must include in‑depth knowledge of electrical systems, controls, generators, and life safety systems, aligning with the assigned area of responsibility.

• Strong expertise in industrial electrical systems and control equipment.
• Proficiency in interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
• Ability to manage and prioritize workload effectively with minimal supervision.

Abilities

• The position requires the ability to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to [50 pounds] on a regular basis. Candidates must demonstrate physical strength and stamina to perform various tasks, including but not limited to, loading, and unloading, operating equipment, and assisting in the transportation of various materials. Proper lifting techniques and safety protocols must be followed to ensure personal and team safety.
• Relocates a 12 foot stepladder without assistance.
• Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks and all types of ladders.
• Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.
• Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English.
• May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.
• Tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
