Reports to: Section Manager, Electrical/Mechanical Maintenance

Position Location: Accokeek

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday. Emergency personnel; may be required to work additional hours for emergencies.

Position Summary: The Industrial Electrical & Mechanical Technician performs electrical work at the journey level in the installation, alteration, maintenance, and repair of electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical systems.

Essential Functions

• Oversees subordinate Electrical Mechanics.
• Determines reasons for wear and repairs various types of mechanical items such as pumps, compressors, conveyors, and valves.
• Replaces belts, bearings, chains, and augers as necessary.
• Installs pumps, motors, pipes, street lights, and electrical controls as required.
• Repairs pneumatic and hydraulic control systems.
• Maintains electrical substations up to 69KV.
• Services heating and air conditioning systems.
• Repairs and maintains drive units, fuel pumps, and compressors.
• Performs general plumbing and replaces malfunctioning pumps.
• Drives a vehicle to conduct WSSC Water business.

Work Environment And Physical Demands

• Must be able to work in inclement weather and confined spaces.
• Exposure to high voltage electrical shock.

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Thorough knowledge of the standard practices and tools of the electrical/mechanical trade.
• Ability to work from drawings and schematics.
• Knowledge of applicable occupational hazards and safety precautions.
• Ability to understand and effectively carry out verbal and written instructions.

Minimum Education, Experience Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• 1+ years of experience as an industrial electrician.
• Substation experience including repair and servicing equipment.

Additional Requirements

• Possession of a valid driver’s license with no more than 4 points.
• Must report to work as scheduled during emergencies.

Preferences

• Experience with high voltage switchgear and substations 15KV or higher.
• Satisfactory completion of an Apprentice Electrical or Mechanical Program.

Salary: $25.96 - $44.05 per hour
