Job summary

Superior Farms is seeking a Maintenance Electrician to install, troubleshoot, and maintain industrial electrical systems in our USDA-regulated food facility at Dixon, CA. You will work with 480V equipment, PLCs, HMIs, and VFDs, performing preventive maintenance and reading schematics.

This on-site role requires safety compliance, ability to lift up to 50 lbs, and collaboration with Maintenance and Production teams.

Job Title: Maintenance Electrician

Job Type: Full-Time, On-Site

Reports To: Maintenance Manager

FLSA Status: Hourly, Non-Exempt

Pay Range: $34.00 – $42.00 per hour, depending on experience

Position Summary

The Maintenance Electrician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of industrial electrical systems, controls, and production equipment within a USDA-regulated food processing facility. This position supports safe and reliable plant operations by identifying electrical issues, minimizing equipment downtime, and performing preventive and corrective maintenance in accordance with company safety, food safety, and regulatory requirements.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair industrial electrical systems and production equipment, including systems operating up to 480V.
  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical wiring, motors, motor controls, variable frequency drives (VFDs), breakers, transformers, panels, and electrical distribution equipment.
  • Troubleshoot PLC-controlled production equipment and related control systems to identify electrical and operational issues.
  • Troubleshoot HMIs, sensors, switches, relays, contactors, control circuits, and other electrical and electronic components.
  • Read, interpret, and utilize electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and equipment documentation.
  • Perform scheduled preventive and predictive maintenance on electrical systems, controls, and production equipment.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and electrical issues in a timely manner to minimize production downtime.
  • Identify recurring equipment failures and assist in determining appropriate corrective actions and long-term solutions.
  • Test electrical systems and components using appropriate diagnostic and testing equipment.
  • Assist with the installation, modification, and commissioning of new or upgraded production equipment and electrical systems.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and documentation as required.
  • Follow all company safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), electrical safety, PPE, and other applicable OSHA requirements.
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and USDA requirements applicable to the facility.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe, clean, and organized condition.
  • Communicate equipment conditions, repairs, and outstanding maintenance issues to Maintenance leadership and appropriate operations personnel.
  • Work collaboratively with Maintenance, Production, Sanitation, and other departments to support safe and efficient plant operations.
  • Perform other duties and maintenance-related responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of three years of industrial electrical maintenance experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting industrial electrical systems, including systems up to 480V.
  • Experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Working knowledge of industrial motors, VFDs, motor controls, sensors, and control circuitry.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Electrical maintenance experience in food processing, manufacturing, or a similar industrial environment.
  • Experience working with automated production and packaging equipment.
  • Experience troubleshooting HMIs.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance programs and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during the work shift.
  • Ability to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, climb, and work in confined or restricted areas as required.
  • Ability to safely climb ladders and work from elevated positions.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, electrical testing equipment, and other maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to perform work requiring manual dexterity and repetitive hand and arm movements.

Work Environment
  • Work is performed primarily in an industrial food processing and manufacturing environment.
  • The position may be exposed to varying temperatures, including refrigerated and warm production areas, wet or damp conditions, noise, moving mechanical equipment, and electrical hazards.
  • Required personal protective equipment must be worn in designated areas.
  • Employees must comply with all company safety, food safety, sanitation, and GMP requirements.
Work Schedule

This is a full-time, on-site position. Work schedules may vary based on production and business needs. Overtime, weekends, holidays, and schedule changes may be required as necessary to support plant operations.
