Midwestern Electric, LLC. (MWE) is seeking an Electrical Estimator to prepare detailed estimates based on design documents, narratives, and specifications, focusing on the Electrical trade. This position reports to the Division Manager. The candidate must perform essential duties satisfactorily, demonstrating the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.

Duties/Responsibilities/Essential Job Functions:
  • Perform routine duties independently with sound judgment and competence.
  • Prepare quantity take-offs, analysis, estimates, and studies for all Electrical items from conceptual design through construction documents, including preliminary design work for conceptual estimates.
  • Use Accubid Pro daily.
  • Analyze site conditions and contract documents to determine the scope not indicated.
  • Develop relationships with local suppliers and vendors for current pricing of electrical materials.
  • Conduct constructability analysis and communicate issues to the project team.
  • Ensure general conditions and requirements are included in the estimate.
  • Develop value analyses for cost-efficient alternatives to Electrical systems, materials, and equipment.
  • Act as liaison with engineers, design consultants, staff, clients, and owner representatives to resolve electrical issues during preconstruction.
  • Prepare estimates and proposals for various contract types.
  • Participate in estimate reviews with the design team and client.
  • Lead project hand-offs to Project Managers, ensuring proper knowledge transfer.
  • Prepare scope requisitions for bidding and procurement, coordinating with estimators to avoid scope gaps.
  • Evaluate vendor and subcontractor proposals, managing scope coverage and risks.
  • Assist in evaluating large change orders.
  • Handle situations and complaints efficiently and calmly.
  • Multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment to meet deadlines.
Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Related electrical field experience; journeyman-level preferred.
  • Knowledge of Electrical Code.
  • At least two years of electrical estimating experience on projects valued from $100K to $1M.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; Excel formulas and Accubid software knowledge are a plus.
  • Ability to interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, and project schedules.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and navigate construction sites.
  • Visual acuity including close, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Use of hands and physical mobility; may lift up to 40 pounds occasionally.
Work Environment:
  • Primarily office setting with occasional site visits.
  • Exposure to construction site hazards, including noise, mechanical parts, fumes, and weather conditions, with adherence to safety policies.
