Job summary

IDEO San Francisco is seeking an Industrial Designer to partner with interdisciplinary teams and design human-centered physical products and services. This role emphasizes hands-on making, rapid prototyping, and visual storytelling.

You will collaborate with mechanical/electrical engineers, software developers, designers, and researchers to push the edges of your craft and deliver manufacturable concepts. The position requires a blend of creativity and technical realism, offering hybrid work,

Qualifications

• 1–2+ years in industrial design; end-to-end project contributions.
• Fluent with SolidWorks, Rhino, Keyshot, Blender, and Adobe Creative Suite.
• GTM experience and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
• Prototyping expertise including 3D printing.
• Hands-on 3D design and real-time prototyping.
• Strong visual storytelling and design-for-manufacturing knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Develop compelling physical product designs balancing form, function, technical constraints and manufacturability.
• Collaborate with engineers, software developers, designers, brand strategists, and researchers.
• Present ideas through sketches, CAD, renderings, and physical mock-ups.
• Lead human-centered research to inform design strategies.
• Create prototypes using 3D printing and rapid prototyping methods.
• Drive cross-functional collaboration and lead 12+ week projects.
• Deliver compelling visual storytelling for clients.
• Explore early-stage inspiration with digital experiments, including generative AI.
• Mentor designers across disciplines.
