Description

Are you an innovative leader that wants to design the next generation of world-class fulfillment centers and logistics systems across the globe? Do you want a high level of ownership in solving complex problems? We’re looking to add an Industrial Design Lead to our team. In this role, you will collaborate with internal and external teams to design high-quality, cost-effective solutions for Amazon Robotics. You will own multiple projects simultaneously, from concept realization through design approval. You will be a primary point of contact for your projects and directly interface with our robotics hardware engineering teams.

You will work with a team of highly skilled and highly engaged Industrial and UI Designers, Ergonomists, Researchers, and Human Factors Experts to deliver excellent holistic User Experiences across a wide variety of robotics systems.

Key job responsibilities

1. Utilize human-centric thinking and impactful aesthetic sensibility to align with customer needs and preferences.
2. Apply critical thinking to the product development process.
3. Be passionate about innovating new-to-the-world products under ambiguity.
4. Demonstrate strong design advocacy, communication, and collaboration skills with cross-functional teams.
5. Maintain excellent organization skills to define, track, and guide multiple design programs.
6. Design for manufacturing considering cost, scale, brand, and usability.
7. Become a subject matter expert on the intersection of robotics, user experience, and industrial design.
8. Work with external vendors and/or manufacturers to ensure quality and design intent are maintained.
9. Produce concept sketches, 3D renderings, and prototypes ranging from quick low-fidelity models to high-fidelity cosmetic or functional prototypes.
10. Execute and deliver CAD surfacing/parametric models.
11. Support the creation of Design Guidelines and mechanisms for infusing human-centered design at scale.
12. Research new materials and manufacturing methods applicable to our products.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Industrial Design.
• 5+ years of professional industrial design experience in Medical, Industrial, or Robotics industries.
• 5+ years working with ID surfacing and parametric CAD tools, preferably Rhino, SolidWorks, Keyshot.
• Exceptional portfolio demonstrating successful products from concept to production.
• Experience collaborating with mechanical, electrical engineers, and production vendors.
• Submit a PDF or online portfolio (including password) with your resume.

Preferred Qualifications

• 3+ years working in a highly technical hardware domain.
• Experience as an in-house Industrial Designer and at Design Consultancies.
• Design experience involving human factors, ergonomics, or tools for professionals.
• Experience designing products involving robotics, mechatronics, or tools for serviceability, repair, and maintenance.
• Experience designing for various manufacturing processes including CNC, urethane casting, sheet metal forming, and injection molding.
