Job summary

Vulcan Elements seeks a seasoned Data Engineer to design and implement the data infrastructure that powers manufacturing and analytics. You’ll lead from architecture to pipelines, ensuring scalable data systems and strong governance.

Based in Durham, NC, the role will relocate to Benson, NC upon completion of the new facility, with opportunities to grow into leadership as the team expands.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in data engineering or related roles.
• Experience designing data lakes, lakehouses, or analytical stores.
• Strong SQL skills and relational database experience.
• Ability to explain data architecture decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design and own Vulcan’s data architecture from operational stores to analytics.
• Build ETL/ELT pipelines and ensure data quality and observability.
• Collaborate with engineering, operations, and IT to translate requirements into pipelines.
• Ensure CUI/ITAR data handling compliance in architecture and tooling.
• Document decisions, maintain runbooks, and support scalable growth.
