Job summary

Blue Origin in Huntsville, AL is seeking a Senior Industrial Controls Technician to ensure reliability and continuous improvement of manufacturing equipment across state-of-the-art facilities.

You will diagnose, troubleshoot, and modify electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and safety control systems; integrate CNC equipment into Blue networks for IIoT; and collaborate with Factory Automation to optimize automated systems, leveraging Siemens and FANUC platforms.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience developing, modifying, or troubleshooting industrial CNC control systems (e.g., Siemens 840D‑SL, FANUC 30i/31i/32i).
  • 3+ years of experience with controls and automation software development environments (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal, FANUC PMC).
  • 3+ years of experience with common automation control systems (e.g., PLCs, Robots, CNC).
  • Familiarity with industrial safety systems (e.g., Siemens SI, FANUC DCS).
  • Understanding of Functional Safety.
  • A demonstrated ability to interpret and review electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. It includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.



Job Summary

As a Senior Industrial Controls Technician, you will play a crucial role in the production support of our state‑of‑the‑art factories in the Huntsville area. You will be responsible for ensuring the reliability and continuous improvement of our manufacturing equipment, contributing directly to the success of Blue Origin's mission.



Responsibilities


  • Diagnosis, troubleshooting and modification of electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and safety control systems.

  • Diagnosis, troubleshooting and modification of ladder logic.

  • Connect and integrate new and existing CNC equipment into Blue networks to support IIoT initiatives.

  • Collaborate with the Factory Automation team to optimize existing automated equipment.



Minimum Qualifications


  • 3+ years of experience developing, modifying, or troubleshooting industrial CNC control systems (e.g., Siemens 840D‑SL, FANUC 30i/31i/32i).

  • 3+ years of experience with controls and automation software development environments (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal, FANUC PMC).

  • 3+ years of experience with common automation control systems (e.g., PLCs, Robots, CNC).

  • Familiarity with industrial safety systems (e.g., Siemens SI, FANUC DCS).

  • Understanding of Functional Safety.

  • A demonstrated ability to interpret and review electrical and mechanical drawings.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related technical field.

  • Experience with industrial networking and communication protocols (e.g., Profinet, Ethernet/IP).

  • Experience with IIoT protocols and platforms (e.g., MTConnect, OPC‑UA).

  • Experience with data collection, analysis, and visualization.

  • Experience in a fast‑paced, high‑volume manufacturing or aerospace environment.

  • Required for Certain Job Profiles: Drivers who operate Commercial Motor Vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) or Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) or combination of power unit and trailer that meets or exceeds 10,001 lbs. or transports placardable amounts of hazardous materials by ground in any vehicle on a public road while in commerce may be subject to additional Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations including: Driver Qualification Files, Medical Certification (obtained before onboarding), Road Test, Hours of Service, Drug and Alcohol Testing (CDL drivers only), vehicle inspection requirements, CDL requirements (if applicable) and hazardous materials transportation/shipping training.

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre‑employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical.
