Job summary

Thompson First Group is seeking an Industrial Automation & Controls Technician to support a local manufacturing client in a direct hire role. This hands-on position maintains heavy industrial automation systems, troubleshoots PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, sensors, and instrumentation, and ensures safe, reliable plant operation.

Qualifications

• Experience maintaining industrial automation and control systems.
• Familiarity with PLC/HMI platforms (Allen-Bradley, Siemens).
• Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and P&IDs.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Identify and report safety hazards; maintain safe work practices.
• Troubleshoot and repair automation components including PLCs, HMIs, sensors, and VFDs.
• Diagnose faults in control panels, I/O systems, instrumentation loops, and networks.
• Perform preventive maintenance on automation equipment and instrumentation.
• Calibrate process instrumentation (pressure, temperature, flow, level).
• Conduct loop checks and signal tracing to verify operation.
• Assist maintenance teams during breakdowns of automation systems.
• Maintain electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control drawings.
• Assist with installation, commissioning, and startup of control equipment.
• Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
