Job summary

Upstate Niagara Cooperative, Inc. is seeking a Controls Technician to install, troubleshoot, and maintain PLC and HMI systems in a dairy processing facility.

You will lead rapid response to equipment issues, coordinate with maintenance, and document changes for compliance and efficiency. You will work closely with maintenance teams to ensure ongoing production, implement preventative controls, and review equipment to determine when repairs or replacements are needed in a high-speed manufacturing

Qualifications

• Associates degree with 3-5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience troubleshooting PLC based control systems; Rockwell software preferred.
• Experience with digital & analog temperature, pressure, flow, speed and weight measurement.
• Experience with discrete sensors and process loop calibration.
• Experience with industrial control networks and configuration (Ethernet, Device Net, DH+).
• Experience with 480V 3-phase power distribution and Allen-Bradley motor controls and VFDs.
• Experience using electrical test equipment and reading electrical schematics.
• Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment.

Responsibilities

• Installs, troubleshoots, and repairs PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and related control systems.
• Carry out production plans and contribute to setting departmental objectives.
• Lead first-response troubleshooting and assign crew resources to fix issues quickly.
• Collaborate with maintenance to identify root causes and implement preventative controls.
• Communicate daily work order status with partners and manage shift handoffs.
• Document modifications to equipment and systems with full traceability.
• Report issues to supervisor with facts, conclusions, and recommendations.
• Assist in developing and updating SOPs for departmental processes.
• Ensure uninterrupted operation with partners while maintaining quality and safety.
• Evaluate obsolete equipment and recommend repairs or replacements.
