Job summary

7th Level Technologies is seeking an experienced Industrial and Commercial Technician to install, terminate, test, and commission low-voltage and electrical cabling systems on active construction and industrial sites. You will deploy structured cabling, security systems, network-connected devices, and control systems while meeting project specs and client expectations.

Qualifications

  • Experience in industrial and/or commercial construction environments.
  • Hands-on experience installing low-voltage cabling systems.
  • Ability to certify Ethernet and fiber optic cabling.
  • Experience installing and wiring security, access control, camera, and control systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read electrical/controls prints and technical drawings.
  • Familiarity with basic networking and IT concepts.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites.

Responsibilities

  • Install, route, terminate, label, and support Ethernet, fiber optic, and cabling.
  • Install and certify security, access control, camera, and control systems.
  • Read and interpret prints, wiring diagrams, and project documentation; coordinate with teams.
  • Perform testing and certification of cabling and systems (Ethernet, fiber, OTDR, power meter).
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, IT staff, and other trades.
  • Maintain site safety, proper cable management, and documentation of installations.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Industrial and Commercial Technician to install, terminate, test, and commission a wide range of low-voltage and electrical cabling systems and integrated building technologies. This role involves working in active construction and industrial environments to deploy structured cabling, security systems, network-connected devices, and control systems while ensuring all installations meet industry standards, project specifications, and client expectations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, route, terminate, label, and support:
  • Ethernet (Cat5e/Cat6/Cat6A)
  • Fiber optic (single-mode and multi-mode)
  • Alarm, speaker, and communication cabling
  • Electrical and low-voltage power cabling (as permitted)
  • Read and interpret prints, wiring diagrams, and project documentation
  • Maintain proper cable management, grounding, bonding, and pathway installation (conduit, tray, J-hooks, etc.)
Testing & Certification
  • Certify Ethernet cabling using approved certification tools
  • Test and certify fiber optic installations (Certification, OTDR, power meter/light source as applicable)
  • Perform functional testing on alarm, speaker, control, and communication wiring
  • Troubleshoot cabling faults, signal issues, and connectivity problems
  • Install, wire, and configure systems including:
  • Card access and access control systems
  • Burglar and intrusion detection systems
  • Video surveillance and camera systems
  • Intercom and paging systems
  • Speaker and audio distribution systems
  • Industrial manufacturing control panels and related field devices
  • Assist with system commissioning and validation
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, IT staff, and other trades
Networking & IT Integration
  • Understand basic networking concepts including IP addressing, VLANs, PoE, switches, and device connectivity
  • Assist with network-connected device setup and troubleshooting
  • Verify proper network communication between field devices and servers or controllers
Construction & Jobsite Responsibilities
  • Work safely and efficiently on active construction and industrial sites
  • Follow all safety procedures, codes, and company standards
  • Maintain tools, test equipment, and jobsite cleanliness
  • Document installations, test results, and as-built conditions
Qualifications
Required
  • Experience in industrial and/or commercial construction environments
  • Proven hands-on experience installing low-voltage cabling systems
  • Ability to certify Ethernet and fiber optic cabling
  • Experience installing and wiring security, access control, camera, and control systems
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to read electrical/controls prints and technical drawings
  • Familiarity with basic networking and IT concepts
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites
Preferred
  • Industry certifications (BICSI, ETA, manufacturer certifications, or similar)
  • Fiber splicing experience
  • Experience with industrial control panels or automation systems
  • OSHA safety training or equivalent
  • Lift, ladder, and conduit installation experience
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment and materials
  • Ability to work on ladders, lifts, and in confined spaces
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions
