Summary

The Industrial Carpenter Helper assists carpenters and other craft personnel with construction, maintenance, repair, and modification activities within industrial facilities. This is a support-level position responsible for preparing and transporting materials, assisting with concrete formwork and general carpentry activities, maintaining tools and work areas, and performing basic construction tasks under the direction of experienced craft personnel and supervision. The Carpenter Helper works as part of a multidisciplinary construction team in active industrial environments and is expected to follow instructions, learn basic carpentry skills, and perform assigned work safely and efficiently. This position provides an opportunity to develop the knowledge and hands‑on experience necessary for progression into higher‑level industrial carpentry positions.

Minimum Qualifications

Essential Functions

• Assist industrial carpenters with construction, installation, repair, modification, and dismantling activities.
• Assist with constructing, installing, bracing, and dismantling concrete forms for foundations, slabs, equipment pads, walls, piers, columns, and other concrete structures.
• Measure, mark, hold, position, and prepare lumber, plywood, form materials, and other construction materials under the direction of experienced craft personnel.
• Assist carpenters with cutting, assembling, fastening, and positioning materials according to instructions.
• Assist with layout activities using measuring tapes, levels, squares, string lines, and other basic layout tools.
• Assist with the construction and installation of temporary structures, barricades, enclosures, walkways, protective barriers, and other jobsite components.
• Assist with stripping concrete forms and cleaning, organizing, and preparing form materials for reuse.
• Gather, load, unload, transport, stage, and distribute materials, tools, and equipment to designated work areas.
• Maintain adequate supplies of materials at work locations to support carpenters and other assigned craft personnel.
• Safely use basic hand and power tools for which the employee has received appropriate instruction or training.
• Clean, inspect, organize, and properly store tools and equipment after use.
• Inspect tools and equipment before use and report damaged, defective, or unsafe equipment to supervision.
• Assist with material handling and general construction activities as directed.
• Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly condition and remove debris and potential hazards as work progresses.
• Coordinate activities with carpenters, laborers, concrete crews, equipment operators, and other crafts working within the area.
• Follow applicable OSHA requirements, company safety policies, client requirements, and site‑specific work practices.
• Participate in pre‑job meetings, toolbox talks, JSAs/JHAs, and other required safety activities.
• Properly use and maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Exercise Stop Work Authority when unsafe conditions or behaviors are observed.
• Perform assigned work in accordance with project quality requirements and supervisor instructions.
• Perform other duties as assigned based on project and operational needs.

Physical Demands

• Ability to regularly stand, walk, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, reach, twist, and perform repetitive physical movements throughout the workday.
• Ability to walk and work on uneven terrain, gravel, concrete, stairs, scaffolding access areas, and other industrial surfaces.
• Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and approved access systems as required to reach assigned work areas.
• Ability to work at various elevations and around active construction operations.
• Ability to frequently use hands and arms to grip, handle, carry, position, and move tools and construction materials.
• Ability to safely lift, carry, push, pull, position, and handle construction materials, tools, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds independently and heavier materials with appropriate assistance or mechanical means.
• Ability to perform work from standing, kneeling, crouching, or other positions for extended periods.
• Ability to visually inspect materials, tools, work areas, and assigned tasks.
• Ability to communicate effectively in environments with moderate to elevated noise levels.
• Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying environmental and weather conditions.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods consistent with the essential functions of the position.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to:
  • hard hat, safety glasses, welding hood, face shield, gloves, hearing protection, FR clothing, steel‑toed footwear, FR clothing, fall protection, respiratory protection and other project‑specific PPE.
• Work is primarily performed at active industrial construction and maintenance sites, including refineries, chemical and petrochemical facilities, power generation facilities, manufacturing plants, and other heavy industrial environments.
• Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and may involve exposure to heat, cold, rain, humidity, direct sunlight, wind, and other varying weather conditions.
• The employee may be exposed to elevated noise levels, dust, fumes, moving vehicles and equipment, uneven terrain, open excavations, elevated work areas, and other conditions commonly associated with industrial construction.
• Work may be performed near operating equipment and active plant processes.
• Required PPE must be worn in accordance with Taurus Industrial Group, client, and site‑specific requirements.
• The position may require work at heights, in confined or restricted areas, or around active construction operations.
• Work schedules may include extended hours, overtime, weekends, nights, shutdowns, and outages based on project requirements.
• Travel or temporary assignment to project and client locations may be required.
