Job summary

FGF Brands in Brownsburg, IN is seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair high-volume food manufacturing equipment while prioritizing safety and food safety policies.

You will work with mechanical and electrical systems, read schematics, perform PM tasks, and collaborate with a team to meet production standards in a fast-paced bakery environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years in a maintenance environment or equivalent education.
• Experience in a high-speed manufacturing environment preferred (food industry).
• Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
• Familiarity with CMMS systems and reading electrical schematics.

Responsibilities

• Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair plant and facility equipment (HVAC, compressed air, steam, etc.).
• Perform electrical and mechanical troubleshooting and fault isolation.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
• Complete PM tasks and work orders; use CMMS to document work.
• Ensure safe work practices (LOTO, NFPA 70e) and HACCP/GMP compliance.
• Support continuous improvement and maintain clean, organized work areas.
• Collaborate with team to meet production standards and safety goals.

Overview

As a team member, the Mechanic maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs high-volume food manufacturing equipment. They prioritize personnel and food safety at all times.

Responsibilities

• Must be able to operate and maintain all plant and facility support equipment, including but not limited to compressed air system, HVAC systems, Steam system, etc.
• All Electrical and Mechanical Troubleshooting.
• Must exceed all "Mechanic Level 1" Mechanical Qualification.
• Must ensure safe work practices (NFPA 70e, LOTO, etc.).
• Respond and react to mechanical and electrical issues in the production environment in a timely and efficient manner.
• Proficient knowledge at reading electrical schematics and mechanical diagrams to aid in troubleshooting.
• Keep a clean and organized work area.
• Complete maintenance projects - PM tasks and work orders as assigned.
• Modify, repair, install, maintain, improve, and troubleshoot various types of machinery, equipment, and facilities in the building.
• Recognizes waste and recommends initiatives for elimination or reduction.
• Use the CMMS (SAP) to complete work orders, write corrective work orders, check out parts, etc.
• Diagnose problems, provide quick & innovative solutions for equipment breakdowns by applying proven skills in the principles of mechanics, fitting, basic welding, metal fabrication, machining, troubleshooting, and analytical problem solving.
• Provide recommendations for continuous improvement in the facility.
• Written and oral communication of daily pass-down activities to other technicians and team lead.
• Maintain proper documentation of plant equipment.
• Adheres to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) standards as well as HACCP compliance and other food safety and workplace safety initiatives.
• Follows attendance policy. Observes department call-in procedures.Exhibits timely arrival and departure and dependable time habits including meal and other breaks.
• Maintains a positive attitude and gets along well with coworkers.
• Exhibits teamwork and willingness to help others.
• Follows dress code and maintains a professional appearance.
• Can be relied upon to complete assigned tasks.
• Complies with established Departmental and Organizational policies and procedures.
• Works within a team environment to meet/exceed established production standards.

Requirements

• Minimum 4 years' work experience in a maintenance environment or equivalent education.
• Experience in a high-speed manufacturing environment (Food industry is highly preferred).
• Must have strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
• Must have a strong understanding of AC/DC motors, motor control circuits, and photoeyes/sensors, etc.
• Knowledge of conveyance a strong plus.
• Must be computer literate.
• Familiarity with CMMS work order systems.
• Food manufacturing background a plus with an understanding of FDA requirements.
• Must have good attention to detail. Ability to understand verbal and written instructions.
• Should be able to understand blueprints and drawings.
• Must be able to work independently with minimum supervision.
• Must be able to work at heights from ladders or scissor lifts.
• Must be able to make decisions.
• Should have a working knowledge of the following: Welding, Machining, Plumbing, Pipefitting, Electricity.
• Must be able to speak, read, and write English.
