Kansas Electric, Inc is seeking an Automation Engineer to join our Newton, KS team. This hands-on role focuses on designing, programming, testing, commissioning and troubleshooting control systems alongside project managers and field teams.

Ideal candidates have experience in PLC/HMI/SCADA environments, with strong troubleshooting skills and willingness to participate in customer-site startup and field service as needed. Collegial, safety-conscious mindset required.

Qualifications

• Education in electrical engineering, automation, controls, mechatronics or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Foundational knowledge of electrical controls and automation, with programming and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and understand control system operation.
• Logical problem-solving, attention to detail and a commitment to safe work practices.
• Clear written and verbal communication, a collaborative approach and the ability to organize assigned work.

Responsabilités

• Develop, modify and troubleshoot PLC programs, HMI applications and SCADA systems for industrial equipment and processes.
• Support controls design, including equipment selection, I/O lists, control narratives, electrical schematics and panel documentation.
• Integrate and troubleshoot instrumentation, sensors, VFDs, control devices and industrial networks.
• Perform system testing, I/O checkout, startup, commissioning and field troubleshooting; document results and resolve issues with the project team.
• Prepare and maintain program backups, control logic documentation, drawings and operating instructions.
• Collaborate with panel shop and field personnel to resolve installation and wiring questions and support successful system integration.
• Communicate technical needs, progress, changes and issues to project managers and customers; complete assigned work within schedules and budgets.
• Provide technical input for estimates, equipment selections and project scopes as experience allows.
• Follow engineering practices, applicable codes and safety requirements; contribute improvements to programming and documentation.
