Job summary

  • Capable of basic electrical and electronic circuitry designs.
  • Experience in software debugging tasks.
  • Capable of navigating through application software and applying software tools.
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting Modbus, OPC, and Modbus TCP/IP.
  • Proficient in Microsoft operating systems and software applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Job description

What will you do?

Application Engineers (AE) in Schneider Electric are highly motivated and pragmatic individuals who demonstrate excellent communication and relationship skills coupled with deep technical knowledge of the customer process as well as the Schneider Electric offer. They can understand complex problems and can overcome diverse obstacles to develop and realize creative and effective solutions.


This position involves being a member of the technical team for large-scale, high-complexity customer projects used in industrial automation. Our multidisciplinary team develops customized SIS (Safety Instrumented Systems) which provide critical safety shutdown solutions to our customers. Our project scopes include front end engineering design, detailed designs, system integrations and customer site support.


The ideal candidate is familiar with systems integration using a variety of technologies. It is not expected that they will have experience with all of them. A motivated and self-driven candidate with basic understanding of engineering fundamentals of electrical circuitry, computer networking and application software.


Location: This is a hybrid role reporting 2 days a week to our Webster, TX location.


The Application Engineer works as part of a project team with project managers and other engineers. The AE supports the design effort from inception through development, commissioning, and hand-off to production. AEs use existing designs, standard libraries, and QA/QC tools to meet the customer’s specific site requirements within scheduled durations. AEs have the flexibility to make changes during commissioning to ensure the system is returned to production per schedule.


Depending on the projects and skillset, responsibilities may include:


  • Custom development, optimization, and deployment of SIS Triconex hardware

  • Create, modify, optimize control solutions on projects based on project specifications.

  • Design and Develop SIS customized HMI

  • Responsible for the development and programming of the control system logic and the functionality of the control system. Uses logic drawings, control narratives and the basis of design documents to contribute to logic development.

  • Performs system testing and factory acceptance testing. Supports the factory acceptance test and develops a test document for selected projects as required.

  • Commission the systems and troubleshoot any issues

  • Attend internal and customer design meetings

  • Use QA/QC tools and processes

  • Responsible for ensuring cyber security compliance of projects tasks and deliverables

What qualifications will make you successful for this role?


  • BS in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent experience

  • 1-3 years of PLC system engineering project experience preferred.

  • Knowledgeable in computer networking architectures, topologies, and hardware

  • Knowledgeable of one or more computer programming languages like C#, JavaScript, TypeScript, Java

  • Capable of basic electrical and electronic circuitry designs

  • Experience in software debugging tasks

  • Capable of navigating through application software and applying software tools

  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting industry standard communication protocols such as Modbus, OPC, and Modbus TCP/IP

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft operating systems and software applications

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to collaborate and succeed within a diverse team

  • Team oriented, self-motivated, and results driven

  • Strong problem solving and detective skills

  • Work according to a specified project requirements and commissioning plan while being resourceful and versatile in finding sources of information to solve problems

For this U.S. based position, the expected pay range is USD 68,000 - USD 102,000 per year. This pay range includes base pay and short-term incentives. The compensation range for this full-time position applies to candidates located within the United States. Our pay ranges are determined by reviewing roles of similar responsibility and level. Within the pay range, individual pay is determined by several factors including performance, knowledge, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
