Job summary

Ingersoll Rand is seeking a Field Service Technician to install, commission, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain rotary screw and reciprocating compressors at customer sites within the Staunton–Roanoke–Lynchburg radius. You will read schematics, perform preventive maintenance, and document activities using a tablet.

You will mentor apprentices, coordinate parts with the Service Coordinator, and provide hands-on start-up support with limited guidance from a Master Technician.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of troubleshooting industrial or commercial mechanical systems.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience with electrical schematics and PLCs is preferred.

  • Perform preventative maintenance and document service activities.

Industrial Air Compressor Field TechnicianLocation: Staunton/Roanoke/Lynchburg, VASchedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.Compensation: Starting at $25.00–$35.00 per hour (full-time, hourly) + $3,000 sign-on bonusWhat your day looks likeYou start your morning from home, hop into your company vehicle, and head to customer sites within a three-hour radius. One visit might be commissioning a new rotary screw unit; the next could be troubleshooting a Centac or ECC compressor with precision measuring tools at your side. You’ll read schematics, check operating parameters, swap components, and validate performance so systems run to spec. Along the way, you’ll speak with operators and plant leaders, explain findings in plain language, and suggest proactive services like Preventative Maintenance, Diagnostics, Audits, and Leak Detection.As jobs wrap up, you coordinate parts with the Service Coordinator, log details on your tablet or smartphone, and share tips with an apprentice or fellow tech you’re mentoring. Learn more at irco.com.Core responsibilitiesInstall, commission, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain rotary screw and reciprocating compressors, as well as Centac and ECC units and related compressed air system components.Perform preventative maintenance and accurately document service activities.Provide technical assistance during pre-commissioning, start-ups, installations, and repairs.Diagnose issues using precision measuring instruments and interpret wiring diagrams/schematics.Partner with the Service Coordinator to source parts and supplies for efficient repairs.Communicate clearly—verbally and in writing—with customers and teammates.Coach apprentices and other Field Service Technicians.Educate customers on IR solutions including Preventative Maintenance, Diagnostics, Audits, and Leak Detection.Required qualifications2+ years troubleshooting industrial or commercial mechanical systems.Valid driver’s license held for at least 12 months.
