Job summary

Hamilton Tanks is seeking a manufacturing technician to operate abrasive blasting equipment, prepare and finish steel surfaces to required profiles, and ensure quality standards are met. You will handle media loading, equipment checks, and nozzle operation while maintaining safe working conditions in a fast-paced shop environment.

The role requires a willingness to train on equipment, familiarity with hand and power tools, and physical stamina for standing, lifting, and protective gear usage.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (required).
• Prior experience in abrasive blasting or a related trade (preferred).
• Willingness to train on additional equipment and processes.
• General proficiency with hand tools and power tools.

Responsibilities

• Prepare workpieces by cleaning grease and dirt.
• Load abrasive media into hoppers.
• Start, inspect, and maintain blast delivery equipment; regulate pressures.
• Direct the blast nozzle to remove coatings and corrosion; use scrapers and brushes as needed.
• Verify surface profile and cleanliness meet quality standards before moving downstream.
• Stand for extended periods; lift up to 50 pounds; wear respirators as needed.

About the roleAt Hamilton Tanks, your day starts with safety checks, equipment warm-ups, and a review of priorities with the Shop Supervisor you report to. You’ll load abrasive media, set blast pressures, and step into the booth to transform steel tanks—removing scale, paint, grease, tar, rust, and dirt to achieve the specified finish. After each run, you’ll examine the surface to confirm it meets our quality specifications, make adjustments, and keep production moving.What you’ll do (a day in the life)Prepare workpieces by cleaning grease and dirt.Load abrasive media (sand, grit, or steel shot of the specified grade) into hoppers.Start, inspect, and maintain blast delivery equipment; regulate air/media pressures for a safe, efficient process.Direct the blast nozzle to remove corrosion and coatings; supplement with scrapers, wire brushes, or abrasive papers as needed.Verify surface profile and cleanliness to meet quality standards before moving work downstream.Physical demandsStand for over 8 hours per shift.Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.Walk on varied surfaces (loose gravel, concrete, asphalt).Frequent turning, twisting, bending at the waist; forward and overhead reaching.Wear respiratory protection for over 4 hours a day.QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent (required).Prior experience in abrasive blasting or a related trade (preferred).Knowledge of field concepts, practices, and procedures—or a strong willingness to train on additional equipment and processes.Working familiarity with manual sand and grit blasting machines, materials, and methods.General proficiency with hand tools (chipping hammer, wire brush) and power tools (grinder, belt sander, palm sander).Consistent demonstration of safe work practices.Visual acuity and peripheral perception of 70 degrees.Compensation and benefitsGenerous benefits package: medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.401(k).Paid Time Off (PTO).Pre-employment and complianceAbility to pass background check, drug test, fit for duty test, and Respirator Fit Test (Pulmonary Function Test)
