  • Must be available during regular hours to communicate with staff and patrons.
  • Punctual and timely with attendance, deadlines and shifts.

Job description

The City of Overland Park has a part-time Indoor Pool Manager position available at Matt Ross Community Center in the Parks and Recreation Department.

SUMMARY:

Responsible for daily operation of the indoor pool at the community center. Supervises staff, operates and maintains pool and equipment per City policies and procedures.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervises daily operation and maintenance of City pool and equipment from pool opening to closing. Checks equipment for proper working order. Takes and tests water samples before opening and once per hour after opening. Adds chemicals to pool to maintain proper, safe and healthy swimming conditions. Checks chlorinator and acid pumps for proper operation. Backwashes filters. Orders supplies for daily operations. Oversees swimming lessons.
  • Supervises pool staff and insures proper staffing levels.
  • Balances cash receipts to recorded sales at the end of the day.
  • Records daily attendance in proper forms.
  • Completes daily reports and submits them to City Hall.
  • Takes money to the bank at the end of the day.
  • Employee must work the days and hours necessary to perform all assigned responsibilities and tasks.
  • Employee must be available (especially during regular business hours or shifts) to communicate with subordinates, supervisors, customers, vendors, and any other persons or organizations with whom interaction is required to accomplish work and employer goals.
  • Employee must be punctual and timely in meeting all requirements of performance, including, but not limited to: attendance standards and work deadlines, beginning and ending assignments on time, and scheduled work breaks (where applicable).
EDUCATION & SPECIAL LICENSE(S)/CERTIFICATIONS:

Completion of at least 2 years of college or additional equivalent experience.

EXPERIENCE:

Three years experience as a lifeguard and/or some management experience.

SKILLS:

Excellent oral and written communication skills. Basic math skills.

MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to read and comprehend city, state and federal policies and procedures.
  • Ability to exhibit diplomacy and judgment when dealing with city employees and the general public.
  • Ability to train and guide others. Ability to work in hectic environment with many interruptions.
  • Ability to analyze complex problems and recommend possible solutions.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to make and receive phone calls.
  • Ability to communicate to pool patrons in a professional manner.
  • Ability to operate pool equipment and machinery.
  • Ability to operate cash register. Ability to lift 50+ pounds and transport 50+ feet.

No City residency requirement.

Must successfully pass a background check, drug screen, physical exam and essential functions test.

Salary Range: $22.00 per hour
