Job Description:
This position is responsible for providing tax and legal expertise for our software products. Research and interpret tax and case law, statutes, regulations, and legislation, and determine how it impacts Vertex products. Structure standard and complex tax content within Vertex products to align with system architecture and platforms.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Determine how tax rules impact Vertex products regarding new content addition or existing content maintenance.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external customers and stakeholders.
- Identify, understand, and communicate changes in tax law or regulations affecting Vertex products.
- Monitor legislative/regulatory activities using research tools (e.g., CCH, Lexis-Nexis) and ensure content compliance.
- Test complex tax content and functionality within Vertex products and databases.
- Support testing and system/process changes to enhance efficiencies or compliance.
- Stage moderately complex tax content logically within Vertex, consistent with system architecture.
- Populate databases for testing purposes.
- Contribute to developing requirements for the Tax Research organization related to tax content and functionality.
- Understand and resolve complex customer issues related to systems architecture.
- Perform quality assurance tasks following documented processes.
- Guide team members in agile principles, ceremonies, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with the Research Management Team to enhance Vertex's tax capabilities.
- Support a dynamic, agile environment through collaboration and contribution.
- Attend educational workshops, review professional publications, and maintain proficiency in productivity tools (e.g., Alteryx, Power BI).
- Lead or participate in operational and strategic projects as assigned.
- Occasional travel may be required.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Taxation, Finance, Data Science, or similar.
- Active pursuit or possession of certifications such as JD, Master’s in Taxation, MBA, CMI, CPA preferred.
- O Series certification preferred.
- 5+ years in a multi-jurisdictional environment focusing on Indirect Tax.
- Industry or consulting experience is advantageous.
- Experience with research tools like CCH, Lexis-Nexis, RIA, BNA.
- Experience with Vertex or other tax engines is a plus.
