The Indirect Tax Associate reports to the Indirect Tax Senior Manager and Tax Vice President and will assist with preparing, reviewing, and coordinating with third-party tax preparers on internal and state/local jurisdictional compliance items relating to real estate property taxes, personal property taxes, sales and use taxes, and business license taxes. This role will assist in finding innovative and efficient tax solutions to align our processes with deadlines and the business objectives for the Company. This position is a fully remote position.
Essential Functions/ResponsibilitiesPrepare and/or review, and facilitate the timely completion of indirect tax compliance items and planning under supervision of the Indirect Tax Senior Manager to ensure accuracy, consistency, and completeness for the areas of real estate property taxes, personal property taxes, sales and use taxes, and business license taxes, and 1099 forms
Analyze indirect tax considerations for new and dissolving deals and managing compliance listing for internal and external preparer deadlines
Facilitate timely payments of indirect taxes to tax jurisdictions
Be a trusted advisor to internal stakeholders on a variety of complex indirect tax issues
Prepare or review accrual calculations and support for real estate and personal property taxes, and other indirect taxes
Post journal entries in accounting system for indirect tax accruals
Assist with managing and maintenance of real estate and personal property tax parcel database
Document, track, and research indirect tax notices received
Contact tax jurisdictions to inquire about indirect tax notices and prepare official responses for review
Assist with various indirect tax audits as needed
Responsible for dispersing accurate information to third-party preparers requiring coordination of data from multiple internal departments
Facilitate discussions, answer questions, and manage relationships with external tax preparers
Assist with supervising and directing the workload for third-party tax preparers
Provide support and innovation efforts for continuous improvement and efficiencies of the processes and methodologies used in the tax department and between third-party preparers
Work with others in the tax department to properly document policies and procedures for the tax department and third-party preparers
Identify and meet Company needs, provide support, and reduce risk by leveraging the internal range of services and extensive external resources for various lines of service
Provide guidance and technical assistance to internal departments with regard to indirect tax issues as they arise
Identify opportunities for indirect tax savings, tax department savings and reduced engagement team internal/external costs
Ensure all indirect tax compliance and related support is prepared and filed timely
Support the Indirect Tax Senior Manager and Tax Vice President with research for technical memos when necessary to document indirect tax legislation or issues, or assist in documenting indirect tax matters
Stay current, research, and plan for current law and changes to indirect tax legislation
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or taxation or Master’s degree in accounting or taxation
2-4 years of tax experience in public accounting, industry, and/or accounting experience
Must be proactive, self-directed, and highly motivated
Must be an energetic, forward-thinking, strategic and growth-minded individual with high ethical standards
Must be trustworthy and able to effectively communicate information verbally and in writing

Ability to read, comprehend, and analyze financial statements, such as profit and loss statements, general ledgers, and budgets
Proficiency in use of computers and software, including use of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook, and experience in utilizing an accounting software system
Understanding of and sensitivity to confidential information
Real Estate or Construction industry experience preferred
Experience with Real Estate Property Taxes, Personal Property Taxes, Business License & Gross Receipts Taxes, Sales & Use Taxes, 1099 Forms
Yardi and property tax database software knowledge and experience a plus
Varies and included working in an office setting.
