Job summary

Red Rabbit is hiring a Cafe Chef to manage day-to-day food service at a school kitchen in New York. You’ll ensure meals are prepared, presented, and served on time, while upholding Red Rabbit’s standards for quality, presentation and compliance.

The ideal candidate is self-directed with culinary and kitchen expediting experience, capable of handling administrative tasks and collaborating with school partners.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of operational or administrative experience supporting cross-functional teams.
• 1+ year in a customer-facing role.
• Proven ability to track, prioritize, and drive multiple projects.
• Experience with schools and/or food service is a plus.
• Entrepreneurial spirit and desire to join a mission-based company.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Must share passion for nutrition in schools and social justice.
• Food Handler Certification required or obtained within 30 days of hire.
• Bilingual Spanish/English is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Engage with students to ensure a positive experience.
• Maintain a clean, presentable service line and uplift students with dignity.
• Elevate cafeteria experience using base kitchen menus.
• Ensure meals are served on time with compliant portions.
• Coordinate meal readiness, staging and service flow.
• Share information between teams to keep operations smooth.
• Identify and resolve potential workflow conflicts.
• Maintain data accuracy in operational systems.
• Address day-of concerns with school partners and inform leaders.
• Collaborate with kitchen team to resolve issues.
