Job summary

The Cai Lab at the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville, VA invites applications for a Research Scientist to develop an independent research trajectory at the interface of cardiovascular biology, muscle physiology, pulmonary disease, and surgical oncology.

Responsibilities include designing and executing experiments, managing mouse colonies, and mentoring students, with a strong emphasis on data interpretation and grant progress. PhD/MD or equivalent required.

Qualifications

• PhD or MD in a related field or equivalent training.
• Experience with molecular biology techniques and small animal models.
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with at least one first-author publication.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute experiments in molecular/cellular biology and small animal models.
• Assist in mouse breeding, genotyping, and record-keeping per IACUC and vivarium policies.
• Mentor junior lab members and contribute to data interpretation and manuscript preparation.
