Job summary

The Beirne B. Carter Immunology Research Center at the University of Virginia seeks a Research Associate to perform advanced experimental research in immune regulation of lung injury, recovery, and disease progression.

The role involves collaboration across multiple projects, authorship of reports, papers, and grants, and engagement in CIC seminars. The ideal candidate has a PhD in Immunology or related field, with extensive experience in flow cytometry, molecular biology, and small animal work;

Qualifications

• PhD or terminal degree in Immunology, Virology, Lung Biology or related field at time of hire.
• Experience with small animal procedures, flow cytometry, and molecular biology.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Perform sophisticated experimental research on immune regulation of lung injury, recovery and chronic disease development following infection.
• Participate in multiple lab projects and write study reports for sponsors, papers, and grants.
• Attend and participate in lab meetings and CIC seminars; mentor students, technicians, fellows and collaborators.
• Maintain and upkeep of laboratory facilities and assist with other duties as assigned.
