Brooklyn Community Services in New York, NY, seeks a Life Skills Coach/Specialist for its Supported Housing program in Coney Island. This full-time role helps residents develop daily living skills, access services, and engage with community resources to support independent living.

The candidate should have a BSW/BA in human services with at least 2 years of homelessness experience; MSW/LMSW is preferred. Fingerprinting and background checks are required, with afternoon and weekend shifts

Competenze

• Two years of experience with homeless youth in supported housing.
• Fingerprinting and background check required.
• Face-to-face contact with consumers and the public; afternoon and weekend coverage.
• Ability to work with residents to achieve individualized goals within their housing program.

Mansioni

• Work directly with residents to enhance daily living skills (budgeting, grocery shopping, cooking meals, apartment organization).
• Meet with clients weekly and/or as directed by Program Director.
• Facilitate weekly groups for independent living skills, budgeting, employment prep, etc.
• Coordinate client social events and monthly calendar.
• Collaborate with case managers to support goals in Individualized Treatment Plans.
• Provide counseling and document sessions within 24 hours.
• Provide crisis intervention and complete incident reports per DOHMH standards.
• Escort clients to medical, social security, and emergency appointments.
• Assist residents with navigating child welfare and criminal justice system, referrals as needed.
• Refer residents to community resources and encourage social connections.
• Participate in community recreational events to boost social skills.
• Coordinate resident move-ins/move-outs in partnership with housing staff.
