Position Summary

In support of the Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of the Inspector General (OIG), the classified transcriber is responsible for converting audio/visual recordings into accurate, appropriately formatted written transcripts. This role requires excellent listening skills, attention to detail, and the ability to capture content verbatim or in summarized formats as specified. The transcriber ensures the final output meets quality and confidentiality standards.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Accurately convert audio/visual recordings into written text, ensuring correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Review and refine transcripts to maintain clarity, consistency, and accuracy.
  • Structure/format transcripts according to DOJ OIG guidelines and formatting requirements.
  • Handle sensitive information securely and maintain strict confidentiality standards.
  • Follow company protocols, style guides, and DOJ OIG-specific instructions.
  • Collaborate with proofreaders, translators, and the Program Manager to ensure high-quality output.
  • Manage time efficiently to meet assignment deadlines.
  • If proofreading, read typed translations and verbatim transcripts while listening to the recording to validate content. Make edits to ensure conformance with the established templates/standards, the style guide, spelling of names per the glossary, and correct typographical and grammatical errors.
  • Report to a DOJ-cleared facility to perform work.
Qualifications, Knowledge And Skills Required
  • At least 2 years of transcription experience.
  • Fluent in English; strong English grammar.
  • Tier 5 background investigation or ability to obtain a favorable Tier 5 background investigation.
  • Active security clearance at Secret or Top Secret.
  • Experience using Infinity USB Foot Pedal (IN-USB-2) preferred.
  • Experience using GearPlayer 4 Transcription Software preferred.
  • U.S. citizen.
  • DOJ residency requirements: for three of the five years prior to applying, must have resided in the United States, worked overseas for a federal or military capacity, or be a dependent of a federal or military employee serving overseas.
Physical And Environmental Requirements
  • May be required to use computer screen for extensive periods of time.
