Job description

The Tax Managing Director, State and Local Taxation is responsible for providing written tax advice to clients, evaluating and recommending alternative courses of action to lessen tax burden and cost of compliance, recognizing potential tax risks, and identifying potential changes in tax policy and regulations. In this role, the Tax Managing Director will be charged with marketing, networking, and business development within their area of experience and specialization, and maintaining key client relationships. Additionally, the Tax Managing Director is a critical part of the office's / region's Tax Services leadership team and will act as a source for guidance on complex tax questions and issues.

Job Duties:

1. Research: Identifies when research is necessary, conducts investigations, analyzes facts, prepares studies of tax implications, and partners with other professionals to resolve complex matters.
2. Tax Compliance: Ensures clients comply with authorities, identifies options to minimize tax and reporting burdens, manages engagements, and collaborates on service offerings.
3. Tax Consulting: Handles inquiries from federal and state agencies, drafts responses, monitors project implementations, and provides solutions based on tax knowledge and industry understanding.
4. Tax Controversy: Represents clients before tax authorities on contested issues and responds to inquiries.
5. Tax Specialization: Acts as industry expert in SALT, manages SALT services, and develops tools for efficiency.
6. Accounting for Income Taxes - SFAS109: Prepares tax workpapers, understands standards, recognizes benefits, and applies industry policies.
7. Strategy Development: Develops ideas to reduce taxes or expenses, participates in industry groups, and leads marketing campaigns.
8. Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises and evaluates staff, ensures training, and acts as Career Advisor.
9. Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Bachelor's in Accounting, 10+ years SALT experience, supervisory experience, CPA preferred, proficient in MS Office, excellent communication, analytical skills, and ability to manage teams and build relationships.
