New York University invites applications for an Inclusive Systems Consultant within the Steinhardt School. Working with NYCPS DIAL, you will help district and school leaders strengthen inclusive practices through expertise in special education, trauma-informed education, and implementation science.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years supporting inclusive educational systems in public schools.
  • Expertise in systems change, adult coaching, implementation science, and inclusive education.
  • Knowledge of IDEA, LRE, UDL, MTSS, PBIS, restorative practices, and culturally responsive education.
  • Strong facilitation, relationship-building, project management, and communication skills.
  • Ability to travel throughout New York City.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Systems Consultation: Analyze programs, policies, and practices; facilitate needs assessments and root-cause analysis; develop strategic plans; support sustainable inclusive systems across schools and districts.
  • School Based Consultation: Develop principals and multidisciplinary teams; conduct classroom observations; coach educators on inclusive supports; coordinate articulation between grades and programs; provide escalation support as needed.
  • Facilitation of Professional Learning: Design and deliver professional learning on IDEA and inclusive practices; provide coaching; develop toolkits and resources; guide implementation and data-informed improvement.
  • Partnership Development: Build collaborations among district leaders, families, and community partners to strengthen inclusive systems across schools.

Description

The Inclusive Systems Consultant works in close partnership with NYCPS Division for Inclusive and Accessible Learning (DIAL) to support district leaders, school administrators, and multidisciplinary teams to strengthen the systems, structures, and adult practices that support high-quality inclusive education. Drawing on expertise in special education, trauma-informed education, implementation science, and organizational change, the consultant helps schools build sustainable systems that increase access, belonging, and positive outcomes for students with disabilities and other diverse learners.

Serving as a trusted thought partner, the consultant translates evidence-based inclusive practices into scalable schoolwide and districtwide implementation.

Core Responsibilities

Strategic Systems Consultation

  • Analyze existing programs, policies, and practices related to inclusion, making evidence-based recommendations for modifications in practice.
  • Facilitate needs assessmenets and root-case analysis of schools and districts related to inclusive practices.
  • Develop strategic plans to strengthen inclusive systems across schools and districts.
  • Support sustainable systems that improve access, participation, and student outcomes.

School Based Consultation

  • Develop principals, instructional leaders, and multidisciplinary teams in leading inclusive school practices.
  • Conduct classroom observations and systems walkthroughs.
  • Facilitate collaborative problem-solving and coach educators on evidence-based instructional, behavioral, environmental, and social-emotional supports.
  • Support planning for articulation between grade levels, programs, and schools.
  • Provide direct special education escalation support for individual students and schools as needed.
  • Assist teams in developing systems that promote belonging, engagement, and access for all students.

Facilitation of Professional Learning

  • Design and facilitate professional learning that builds long-term capacity in implementation of IDEA and evidence-based inclusive practices such as:
    • Inclusive instructional design and Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
    • Trauma-informed and neuroaffirming practices
    • MTSS, PBIS, and restorative practices
    • Collaborative teaming and integrated service delivery
    • Executive functioning, self-regulation, and sensory-inclusive environments
    • Family-school partnerships and inclusive supports for diverse learners
  • Provide coaching and technical assistance to school and district teams.
  • Develop toolkits, guidance documents, and implementation resources.
  • Guide implementation using improvement and implementation science.
  • Develop action plans, monitor fidelity, and support continuous improvement through data-informed decision-making.
  • Review quantitative and qualitative data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Monitor implementation fidelity and outcomes.
  • Support teams in using data to drive decision-making and continuous improvement efforts.

Partnership Development

  • Build collaborative partnerships among district leaders, educations, families, community organizations, and related service provides to strengthen inclusive systems across schools.

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $95,000-$105,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

Per NYU's remote-work policy, this position is expected to be fully in-person.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated expertise in systems change, adult coaching, implementation science, and inclusive education.
  • Experience supporting students with a broad range of learning, behavioral, developmental, communication, and social-emotional needs.
  • Knowledge of IDEA, Least Restrictive Environment (LRE), Universal Design for Learning (UDL), MTSS, PBIS, restorative practices, and culturally responsive education.
  • Strong facilitation, relationship-building, project management, and communication skills.
  • Ability to travel throughout New York City.
