Job summary

Virginia Beach City Public Schools seeks a dedicated special education teacher to design and deliver individualized instruction for students with disabilities within a range of educational settings.

Under principal direction, the teacher adapts the general curriculum with supports, collaborates with families and professionals to create IEPs, and maintains accurate records to meet district and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in an approved program for special education - general curriculum or equivalent; 27 semester hours in education of students with disabilities in the assigned area.
• Must be eligible or possess a valid Collegiate Professional License from Virginia.
• Comparable amount of training and experience may substitute for minimum qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct and indirect instructional support to students in a positive environment.
• Confer with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and other professionals to develop IEPs.
• Maintain accurate and complete student records and prepare reports as required by laws and district policies.
• Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate those objectives to students.
• Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time.
